two goals: to do better than last year (5:08) and to not walk the bluff.

I was able to do both:

breaking it down: swim 36:xx .....can I zigzag much more?? the RD said you had to stay right of buoys. (I'm pretty sure that you 'can' go in the buoys, but have to go around corners). I kept finding myself going "in" and wanted to be safe and went "out" :(. quite disappointed with my swimming. but I did learn a lesson: Do not ask someone that is planning to win the race to be the person to check your wetsuid "zip". I'm sporting a major gash in my neck from the velcro being tucked in. :(

bike: 2:40. I planned to push 165 watts, did 166, so dead on as expected. I do think I could have pushed it harder and I'm a little too conservative on the bike

run: 1:30:xx. again, too comfortable. I tried to push at the end, but was getting some calf cramps. I can't seem to break the 1:30 barrier

overall: 4:50:XX. 4th female.....missed 3rd by 11 seconds and don't think more than one person didn't scold me as I was running under 7 minute pace and she was just under 8 minutes. I did see her on the last mile and just didn't care enough.

post race thoughts: I need to figure out the swim. I need to go back and work on transitions (I do everything from complete stop after falling over trying to keep my shoes clipped on last summer). I took 2 steps back after that, not only do I not swing my leg over and fly off the bike. I stop, straddle, walk (with 2 hands )my bike to transition---drives the dh batty

Hey Sue great job! You ran the same as high cliff and biked 7 or was it 9 minutes faster, so you were right. Sorry I didn't make it up there, but I did sign up for Steelhead, I thought that was a good idea.

165 watts and 2:40? You must be really tiny :) What did you push at High cliff? Congrats on the great race!

158 at High Cliff. I'm 53 kgs...so still underachieving at 3.1 watt per kg. My watts aren't any better than last year (my max is lower), but I'm way more aero and more efficient than a year ago...I'm riding 700s rather than 650s.

I was considering steelhead for the last few days, I'm getting my sub 9s next week and have never ridden with disc before...so I really want to add a race. There's a new one in MI non-70.3 on Aug 29th that is a possibility.
3.1 is good for a HIM. I'm sure you can get to 3.3 or so, or whatever you're looking for. I'm sure you capitalize it on much better on hilly courses like you did in Wisconsin. Man I need to get my kgs down a bit. I think if you want to do Steelhead you could, with a good rest week. You might be able to get your sub 1:30 run there, its pretty flat except a hill you hit twice, which is nothing like the high cliff one and I'm sure the door county one. Lake can get choppy, its hit or miss with the wind.

Sub 9s... wow.. I'm going to try a disc cover at Steelhead, I was thinking about a disc clincher though... maybe next year.
