I'm off for a week..did you know that the US gov't actually has the f&^%$g balls to charge money to scatter someone's ashes at a national park???? I usually follow my conscience in cases like this & will end up making a donation in my buddy's name for trail maitainance or something of the like, so I guess they get the money anyway.

Been busy lately trying to tie loose ends with work related stuff before I leave. Will update the monthly milage thread when I get back.

I know I am in and out of here like,,,,, well, I will let you guess that at our ages :).... But I have to write this today. I ran my first race this year, and 8Km, and managed a 41;22, WAY better than I thought I could do. I wont repeat everything I typed on my blog (Please read and comment if you like) - Mainly because my legs are killing me and I need to go to bed ..... After the race I joined up with the lcoal hash and ran another 9Km with them - Ouch!!!! Loving it......

Wow, great time for an 8K, Liam!! Congrats!

Not so sore today... got the garden work done that I'd planned and lazed around for most of the rest, watching the birds in by backyard. Saw three male red breasted grosbeaks fighting over the feeder, a hairy woodpecker complaining that the suet feeder was empty, a mob of blue jays, a couple of cardinals, a white breasted nuthatch, and a harrier (marsh hawk) that landed in a tree at the back of the property and scared away the rest of the birds. Cool!

Some fabulous racing this weekend, wow! I had me a pretty good race as well... did a 10k this morning in 52:25. Just the symmetry of the numbers themselves is enough to make me happy... well, almost... ;)

Here's a poem for Johnny as he heads out. It doesn't exactly speak to the moment, I know; but it speaks to being Present in the Forest and is one of my faves.

LOST by David Wagoner, 1976

Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.
