I have a facebook account again now that FB changed some of its security procedures. But as before, I do not friend nor accept as friends any co-workers. One of my co-workers was somewhat offended when they asked me for my facebook screen name to friend me and I told them I don't accept any co-workers as friends. Just not my bag to share anything outside of work with a co-worker, unless I knew them from somewhere other than work. They were really miffed at me and haven't spoken to me since. This co-worker does not work close to me and we have never been "friends" outside of work by any stretch of the imagination so I'm not sure why they felt I wronged them when I wouldn't give them my facebook name.

The exact opposite here.

The exception is (supposedly) management is not allowed to social network with non-management. No FB, Twitter, nothing,

I have co-workers, including my supervisor, as FB friends. And my family.

It's an excellent way to remind yourself not to waste time on FB during work, and to not post stuff online that you'd be ashamed for your mom, your kids or your supervisor to read.

But even though you block it at work, do you accept co-workers as friends on Facebook?

I don't do FaceBook, but if I did, I wouldn't friend cowarkers.

My marketing guy is on FaceBook & he updates me on what some of our business assiciates are up to....I'm not sure they are aware of how much they are letting out there.

And that's my whole point about why I'm unwilling to friend co-workers on Facebook. Unless they are friends in my house (of which no co-workers are), I see no reason to friend them on an instrument that there is no telling how many other people are seeing or sharing.

I have two places of employment. My fun, professional, career job and my fun retail job for my favourite sports team.

Professional job - I have one facebook friend who is crazy about the same sports team. I generally don't friend other people and do basically say, that it is a family/sports team only thing for me.

Retail job for favourite sports team - most of the staff are my friends, not the manager, or the club's upper organizational staff, but I think most of my posts are pretty fluffy, team related stuff. I'm a pretty quiet facebook person, until I am travelling or my team is in the playoffs.

I have coworkers as friends. I don't post about work. I use FB at work as I need distractions, they help me relax and think creatively. Other people waste time smoking or chit-chatting, so I don't see the harm.

The thing is, I signed onto Linkin about 5 or 6 years ago, I found that I never used it....once in awhile I get people emailing me about adding me to their list. I simply reply that I haven't used it in eaons, so it's a waster of time....but the invites still come. So I decide to de-list myself...turns out it ain't so easy to LinkedOut.
