Our work offers them for free to employees, $30 for family members. I've never had one and all my co-workers think I'm nuts for not taking advantage of a flu shot. My boss even tries talking me into getting one. . .

I'm curious if any of you routinely get a flu shot?

I do. I had the flu once and was so sick that I thought I'd never recover. Now I get the flu shot every year and the worst side effect was that my arm was a little sore from the needle. It's been definitely worth it for me.
I do every year. My wife has an immune deficiency and other heath problems and the doc recommends our complete household gets them to keep her healthy. I've never had a problem with them.

...every year it seems they screw up a batch, and the whole nation has to wait while the Flu Vaccine is Late again this year......

I did once. There was a big frenzy about getting one, as vaccine was low. (The whole family went in & got one). A week later my daughter got the flu. (I know it wasn't from the shot...dr. said the vaccine just hadn't had time to work before she was exposed).

Anyway, since then I've not done it. I don't fit any of the criteria for people at risk who should get one, so I don't.

I've never had one, I got the flu once about 15 years ago, lasted a couple of days. I don't like needles unless they have ink . When I get old, maybe I'll change my mind. The wife gets one every year though and says they're great.

Ditto what Susan said. I had influenza once. I was sick for two weeks, and I missed work for the first and only time in my life (it's true; I never missed a day of school either). I was so freakin' miserable. I've had a flu shot every year since even though it makes my arm ache for about a week. I never, ever want the flu again!

I do get a flu shot each year. Small price to pay for some bit of added protection. I've had a couple of tough battles with a flu bug over the years and it's no fun. I know I could still get a mild case, or get hit by a non-protected strain, but so far so good.

peeking in here, is it ok to post with you folks?

I got a flu shot last year for the first time. Hubby declined to get it. He got a nasty case of the flu later in the year. We are both going to get it this year! Figures its a good idea this year since he just had a mild heart attack.

SIERRA - of course you can post here! It's not an exclusive club by any means.

That's definitely true, I never skipped. I liked class, but hated studying, so I made sure I never missed one. I took great notes, never read a text book (unless I didn't understand my notes), looked through the notes for a couple of hours the evening before a exam, and cruised through my undergrad degree without much stress. Somehow graduated cum laude, but I think that might have been a mistake...

I had it last year for the first time only because it was paid for and encouraged by my employer. I'm 45 y/o and it was odd because I felt like I was 1/2 the age of everyone else in line at the Senior Center. I got sick later that Winter and missed a couple of days at work but who knows if it was the flu or not. Think I'm passing this year. We are so exposed because DW Teaches. DS#2 is in Middle School and I work a Sales Territory so I am out meeting the Public every day.

No. We'll have to return to this thread during flu season and see how the yeas and nays fare.

yay/nay - I am hit and miss with this. If work offered it for free I did, else I did not seek it out or pay for it. So over the past ten years, maybe 5 times.

Some people are vaccine phobes, and of course every year I hear of people who absolutely insist they were fine until they got the shot, then got the flu from it. Of course it's unrelated, and it's generally not the fly they got either.

Never had the flu in any case,
