I am fairly new to running (less than a year), and I run between 10-15 miles/week.

I've noticed recently that anytime I bend my knees (like coming down the stairs), my knees are very noisy. They crackle like crazy with each step down. I have no pain.

I'm assuming that since I have no pain that I don't have a problem, but my DH disagrees. I feel silly getting checked out when I'm not experiencing any pain. Anyone have any insight?

If you are not having pain, my personal feeling is that it's not, but you should keep an eye on it.

http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/i...a/aa092500.htm

My right knee crunches every time I walk down stairs or bear weight on it, such as a squat or lunge. No pain, but its somewhat frightening to hear it. Its does not bother while running (ave 55-60 mpw) but I cannot do exercises such as squat or lunge because the noise sounds horrible. No pain, though.

Thanks for the responses! I'll keep ignoring the noise
