Hot and humid... but that's OK, I'm used to it. I never get a cool race temp.

It felt like a strange dream... running thru the Magic Kingdom, in the dark with Chip & Dale high fiving and Alice in Wonderland jumping up and down with her blonde hair flowing... bizarre. A busload of people in matching tan jackets lined up along the deserted highway, apparently bussed in for a canned cheering section. Racecar sounds as we passed the speedway. At one spot with relatively few specatators I could swear there was cheering crowd on the PA. But I barely perceived these sights as I was trying to stay focused on my pace and meet my goal of a sub 1:44 time. The last mile I knew I was going to be close and put in all I had, barely noticing the sights and characters in Epcot. I sprinted to the finish line and stopped my watch... it read 1:44:02... no way!!!!

I found my friend and we went back to the finish area and watched others finishing for the next hour or so. They all looked like they were having so much more fun than I did... taking pictures of the finish as they're running. Kidding around with the characters, running hand-in-hand with their pals. My friend and I vowed to come back and do it again sometime for fun.

We got back to the car and I called my hubby to check the official results... his email alert had me at 1:43:58!!! So, I made it after all!!! Just checked the results online and it now shows 1:43:59!!!! Whew, that's close. A good day... new PR, qualifier for NYC and 15th in my AG.

Oh yeah... there were lots of men dressed as female Disney characters... quite a few Tinkerbells and one Snow White, three flamingos. What's up with that?

Congratulations! That is a great PR in not-so-great conditions!

I remember seeing that too when I ran Disney a while back - lots of Mini-mouse men. It's funny.

Wow! Congrats. You're going to have to go north and find some cool weather. BTW, we raced a 10 - miler here in Bham and the weather was awesome! 38 and sunny at the start; 42 at the finish. (not to rub it in or anything, and the race organizers found some relatively flat roads for a change. Nice)

Yeah, I tried going north (Chicago) and the hot and humid weather apparently followed me. Blow some of that cool air down here for Gasparilla, would ya?

Wow, you can't cut it much closer than that. Congratulations, teammate!

Leave that heat & humidity home next time!

Great job wonicooker. Congrats on the PR. I ran the Goofy challange (the half on Saturday and the full on Sunday) last year and there was some strange costumes worn by both genders then too. It was also very hot and humid but in 2006 it was 32 at the start of the full and great for running.

Congrats! I second the cool air for Gasparilla!

My A/C has been turned off and it looks like we will need the heat soon...It will be pretty chilly here next week for us Floridians.

Yes I think I was faster than the Tinkerbells, but sadly the dude in the Snow White outfit passed me in the last mile

I was doing the Goofy and had a blast too - really enjoyed the courses.

Approached the races as training runs - Saturday's half as a 13.1 mile tempo run and Sunday's full as an LSD.

Goal for tempo was "sub-7:00 every mile" - and did it with ease. Finished in 1:30:48 (including stopping to tie my shoe) - which was good enough for 91st place out of 12,288 finishers - Whoot!

Took it a little easier on the full - ran a negative split by four minutes, finishing strong in 3:34:31 (no "fade" whatsoever) - which was #425 out of 12,964 finishers.

If you're looking for a fun half/full, then I would definitely rate this up there - but the humidity was pretty bad.

Great job wonicooker! Way to go just sneaking under the 1:44!

I was there for the Goofy too and I am also starting to feel like I am doomed for hot/humid races after several in a row -- still had a blast though (in a painful sort of way).

Maybe there was more than one guy in the snow white getup, because I passed one who was on about a 1:30 pace at mile 10ish. Saw the same guy dressed as mini mouse the next day in the marathon!

I ended up doing 1:27:58 and 3:08:02 -- I really enjoyed the full despite my legs feeling like crap for the entire race -- high fiving the characters and all that. For the half, I was a little too worried about what was in store the next day to fully enjoy it...
