I thought I'd seen (and experienced) everything.

My right Achilles is sore. Not in tension (as in pulled) and not in motion (as in tendinitis), but in compression.
I ran a marathon a week ago, and 13M a couple of days ago, no problem.
But if I stretch my foot down as in stretching the front, instep, and shin, it hurts! Right where the top of my shoe is, in back.
On Sunday at a soccer game I trapped a high ball, the ball hit the ground and bounced up to hit sole of my foot. OW !!! I could not walk for several minutes. Then it was ok again (well as I've described).

Anyone ever heard of this one?
Pro, this is weird. That is exactly what I was experiencing. I was walking downstairs in bare feet, not paying attention, and hit my heel on the nose of the top step in a pointed toe position. Zing! It also bothered me when swimming and water running, any time my toe was pointed.

I went to the podiatrist and he Xrayed my foot. There's a little protrusion of bone at the back of the ankle joint that may have a hairline crack in it - it's very slight and hard to see. But the dr. told me this injury is common in dancers, soccer players, people who are on their toes a lot or use their feet in that pointed toe position. If it's severe, that little bone protrusion is completely broken off. (If that happens, usually there's a lot of swelling).

The dr. made the analogy that this injury is the same as a jambed finger...it's just a jambed ankle. In my case, he said I could continue running because that didn't seem to bother it. He suggested I take a break from swimming for a couple weeks.

When I was struggling with my achilles injury it would bother me most with my toes in the pointed position. Anytime I would get up on my toes would hurt like hell!! My achilles is much, much better now, but if I really point my toes on my left foot I can feel some discomfort. Very weird.
