Good luck to the Rib family. KS, when your weather is great, I know I'm going to be suffering. I did 13 M today in 28 F and 20 mph wind (wind chill 6). Then I watched the live video feed for the Western States 100 lottery. Each applicant had about a 10% chance of being selected. I was one of the 90%. Maybe next year.

Nice racing, FF. I have a 25K next weekend (unless I decide to do a second loop). Unfortunately, only about a third is on real trails. The rest is two-track or road shoulder.

SS, the best way to beat the long odds for WS100 is to start young; for every consecutive year you are not picked, you get an extra chance. Old Man Time may get me before I get in. Looking around for a qualifying race next year ... There's one down in ksrunr's neck o' the woods.

ETA: Anyone who has done Rim2Rim2Rim knows a lot already about deep ends.

Hi Ilene, and everyone else,

Good racing, FF. The snow hasn't been sticking here yet, but we're expecting some Saturday. Just in time for a trail race that's hours away, so I may bail. Plenty cold, though, so I was happy to be indoor on the treadmill. 5 M in 41:05, with 3 @ 7:30 m/M. AHR 136, 141, 146 bpm--so low I tend to question whether all the machines were working properly. Maybe I should find a local 5 or 10 K to test things out in the real world.

SS, have fun in the mountains tomorrow. Good luck, ksrunr.

5 M for me today. Beautiful day--I think it's the calm before the storm.

Good job, Rib Cage. Heme, there was too much beefcake in the way. Looks like a terrific time.

7 M on the TM (wind chill outside--fugetaboutit), making for a 42-mile week.

No race for me, SS (congrats on your nice showing). Of those that did race, one was mildly hypothermic by the end. I did get in 20 M that day, so I had a good sample of the weather. Cold rain at first, then the temperature dropped. Wintry mix next and finally snow that stuck. My running buddy was complaining of eye stingers as we headed into the strong west wind (I had glasses). We finished up with 2 M on the TM.

I did my Wednesday TM tempo run this morning after 3 days off. I can't remember when I last had a break like that--probably after running 50 M a year ago. This time, I was just busy (conference in Minneapolis in which I had to give a paper and judge student papers). This may be my first under-40 week in a month.

Sorry, Ilene (SoCalGal), but you won't find much sympathy here.

15 M outside today. Temp in the high 20's with little wind. We commented on how nice it was!

Thanks for the hug, Ilene. I feel bad giving you the gears (am I using that correctly, SS?) because southern Calif. did get hammered for days and I see the mudslides/flooding on TV and know that people are suffering. All in good fun, right?

Nice running, Ribs. My DD heads back to Austin tomorrow.

5 M on the TM today. Outside, the Big Melt is happening.
