Nice job this morning, gentlemen!

It was pouring rain here and only 5°C, so I wimped out and headed to the dreadmill before work. 5 miles ezpz, with a slight progression to a fast-ish finish.

The rest of you know how I often brag about my BIL Joe, he of the 30+ year running streak. Some of you have met his son Joe, my nephew, at Robin's party in Boston. Young Joe did the Cozumel Ironman on Sunday in a respectable 10:42, 1:03 for the swim, 5:31 for the bike and a 3:59 marathon. He is 45 years old.

I am over this rotten cold and running okay. The Saint, my 3 sons and I will run the 5-person Relay at the White Rock Marathon on Sunday. We don't fit into any specific age/sex category so we won't win anything, but we're very excited to do something new and different as a family. Spareribs

Good afternoon, everyone.

Good running there, Mike, ks, Heme.

The family relay sounds like a fun memory-maker, Spareribs. Congrats to your nephew.

I’ll post Tuesday’s run since my fingers would not allow me to type an incomplete sentence yesterday.

I ran 4 miles recovery in pouring rain which wasn’t bad since it was fairly warm.

Rain turned to snow overnight. MrF and I are going to the towpath after work, pace and distance tbd. A dusting of snow should still be on the ground.

I’d really like to order raspberries for fall planting but the snow has me reconsidering.

irun - I always feel like that when starting the thread in fear someone else will have finished theirs

Nice running KS - I'd finish my sentences too if I ran like that!

Hi Heme!

Sounds like fun SR! Wish I could get someone even remotely interested in running!

Speaking of which . . . FF - does Mr. FF run too?

TW - I think they must have forgotten to mention no running either. Glad everything came out ok

Me? I got sick after Turkey day and was out of running for a few days and then decided to take a whole week off from running in hopes to help heal some lower back and foot issues and thought this was an opportune time to start especially since I am in training class this week and would have a hard time squeezing in some runs anyway. I hope to get back out there Saturday all renewed!

Per TW - Carry on . . .

tw, since I've been told I'm full of it more than once, I suspect my weight is less than 171. Maybe 25 at most.

That would be fun to do with my wife and kid(s) Ribs.

You served your sentences well Ks

7.0 mile mid-week medium-long run.

Running along the Hudson River with the wind-driven rain today was, oddly enough, like running along Myrtle Beach last spring, except there was no sunshine, it was colder, and there were no half-nekkid people lying along the river. At least I didn't see any. In fact I saw but two other runners and one bicyclist. Now THAT looked like no fun at all. But truly, my quads felt very similar to how they felt last Easter week when I was running along the Atlantic Ocean in North Myrtle Beach. There was that constant, strong wind off of the water, and my core and quads were carrying much more of the load than during a normal run.

Glad you’re feeling better, Pink. Yes, DH is a good runner. Right now he’s returning from an injury. Usually he does more biking than running, commuting an hour each way on fat tires even during winter providing the roads are clear enough.

I can’t think of a witty response, tw. Thanks for the reminder to make an appointment.

tomwhite, glad you made lemonade out of, er, lemons....

Ribs, that family run sounds really nice. Hope everyone's outfits coordinate.

Heme, I finally got around to listening to those music links you posted the other day. The first two songs, sorry, they're not for me... but anything by Mr. Reznor is totally fine by me. :) I actually just got a copy of the soundtrack to the movie "The Social Network". I had remembered noticing the style of the music while watching it, thinking it sounded like NiN... so when the credits rolled, whaddaya know, it was my pal Trent's work!

Sorry you got sick, Pink, but glad to hear you're on the mend.

Hi Mike, KS, FF, BTY and everyone else who ventures in!

I finally took a well-deserved rest day today. I've been craving sugar, been starting to feeling sluggish, all the telltale signs of approaching overtraining. OK, so maybe it's more like being in the midst of overtraining rather than approaching it, but still, I did notice... So I caught up on some retail therapy at the running store (a nice fleecy Nike hoody and Feetures sock!) and finished the remainder of my gift shopping. Chanuka (a.k.a. the holiday that defies proper spelling) begins this evening, and with it comes my very favorite custom (which I am very happy to share with all for the week): for the entire time that the candles are lit and burning, women are not permitted to do any housework. As I've (probably) said before, I need to get me some really big candles!

Happy Wednesday, all!

I've never heard of that custom associated with the lighting of the candles, OM. The candles we use are the typical skinny/small ones - so yeah, I'm thinking big fat candles are needed! David loves the lighting of the candles and his menorrah that we found for him when he was just 2 or 3 is actually a formula one style racing car with the candles laid out on the rear spoiler. it's pretty cool.

Ribs, I love the idea of your family relay!

went out for a slow run at lunch. I did have to keep glancing at my garmin because I kept going faster than I wanted and I wanted to keep this one intentionally at a 10 min mile pace. I did pretty good. 4 miles in 39:45.

Pink - I'm glad to hear you're taking the time to get back into tip top condition. I like it when you're running pain free.

There is one other thing. I finally ordered a Road ID (free) so they sent me a coupon code for a buck off if anyone wants one. That'll basically pay for the shipping (which I had to pay for). It can be used up to 20 times in the next 30 days.

Happy Chanukah, Esther!!!

Thanks for sharing that, TW!!! That apparently was held in the mall right next door to my SIL's house. And boy, can that song send chills down this atheist's spine. Gorgeous music!! Was grinning from ear to ear as I listened and watched.

Glad you're feeling better, Pink. Sometimes taking some time off is well worth it!

Good plan to get the RoadID, Opie. I've been wearing one for a couple of years now.
