I am soooo not happy!

DH dropped E off at daycare yesterday. One of the teachers, T, pulled DH aside and told him that all day Friday, E was making fun of the mentally disabled kid. I was really really upset all day yesterday that it happened, plus trying to figure how I was going to handle this one.

That evening, I go to pick up E. Another teacher, K, comes to me and says T is full of it. T didn't even see what happened. The disabled kid was getting up in E's face screaming and caring on and E yelled back at him. That E is probably the most patient kid at the facility with this boy.

Last night I had a talk with E about this boy and that he can't help it, doesn't understand, etc and that it's important to be patient with him and it's not okay to make fun of him....we've had this kind of talk before, but....

This morning, I talk to the director, who knows nothing about the situation. So she brings T in to find out. T admits that a third teacher told her about it, that she really didn't even see anything. Then, T couldn't even remember which teacher told her.

I asked T why she was coming to DH with a problem that she heard about second hand? She said she was just letting us know what she heard. Director tells her she has no business talking to the parent about this situation that T should have come to her about it first. I told T that this was not acceptable and I didn't expect to hear stories told as fact about a situation that may or may not have occured.

I mean this is high school crap. My day yesterday was ruined, poor E almost got his butt in a whole mess of trouble. All because of this idiot.

Thanks for letting me rant!

I'd be pissed too, MrsCoby!

I don't know what to do about it though.

With DS I'd have a nice long talk about how even though he didn't do anything wrong, it's still a good learning experience. Apologize for not believing him (if appropriate), even grown ups screw up sometimes.

With the daycare, ugh. Do they have an "official" policy about disseminating this type of behavioral information to the parents? Perhaps recommend that they revisit it? I may make them demand that teacher T apologize to DS (with witnesses).

Ooo! I hadn't thought of that. She told DH in front of E. DH immediately turned to E and said, "You're dead meat when we get home."

Oh, man...that'd make me SO mad. No one messes with my kid unfairly like that!!

I'd definitely ask for an apology, but mostly because if TinyE WERE in the wrong, I'd make HIM apologize. All about setting an example for your kid to do the right thing...

I'm sorry you had to go through that...

In a way, I'm glad you wrote this; it's nice to see I'm not the only one with a "mama bear" instinct...

Whoa!!

Talk about Mama bear!

then....the wind got totally taken out of her sails......by my niece.

On the way home from school one day.....(the day before sis had an appointment with the principal and teacher)....
niece: "Mom, you don't have to worry about the L.... situation any more."
sis: "really?"
niece: "Yeah, I already handled it."
sis: "really?" <--slightly worried "how'd you do that"
niece: "I told him that he didn't have to be mean anymore 'cause I'd be his friend." <-- paraphrase of Loooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggg 6 yr old story.
sis:

She called the principal and filled her in on the 6-yr old solution, and asked that they keep an eye on things, but that she was ok for now.

6! The kid figures that out on her own.
