I am curious why we don't see many (if any) user names with dad or husband in them. There are plenty of _____mom(s), momof______, _____wife, etc. but no dadof_______, ______hubby, etc.

Is it because women identify more with their familial roles where men just look at it as one of their chores/tasks?

I suppose I could have used "TG's other half" or something like that. She has been around here longer than I and has MANY more posts.

You thread topic is an interesting observation. Please tell me you were kidding when you wrote your second paragraph. If it is a chore or task for either a man or a women they have no business being a parent.

I have seen men with "childcare" written on their calender/to-do list. That in reference to taking care of their own kids. I have never seen a woman refer to taking care of their children as I got childcare from 5:30 to 9:00 this evening.

I now call on all men and women who have ever felt like taking care of their kids was a chore or task to leave their families because they are unfit parents!

well, if the mrs is gone for work or something, people have asked me if I'm "babysitting".

To which I tell them, "No, they're my kids. I'm not babysitting."

I write "kids" on my calendar days I have them.

No way in Hell would I call it child care or babysitting. I don't view it like that at all. I love taking care of my kids and am proud to be a father.

As far as labeling myself as "DadMort".... I guess it just sounds wierd... I've been Mort since before posting...

I agree that it sounds weird but I am not sure why. I don't think any of the "mom" names sound weird.

I would guess that women, in general, do have more of their identity wrapped up in motherhood than men do in fatherhood. I would also guess that the margin between the two, while there, probably isn't that wide. I think that the reason we're not seeing more dad titles is that we don't get the warm fuzzy that women get by advertising the fact that we're a parent.
