I've already posted this in the 'gear' forum but would appreciate comments from my boomer/master friends.

I've been running in compression tights for the last two weeks and I'm not sure whether they are right for me.

They feel great when I put them on but for the first 2 and a bit miles my calves and achilles really do ache. After that they feel great again and no more aches. As a tester this morning, I wore my ordinary 3/4 tights and no aches at all.

I thought at first I may have bought the wrong size but they really do feel comfortable until I start running!

Has anyone else experienced this or has any thoughts why my calves ache so much initially?

THis is probably a silly question, but... What are compression tights/shorts and what are they for?

Lycra or spandex pants. You see them on bicyclists all of the time. They are great for warmth, and some say they can reduce muscle fatigue by reducing the re-wobble effect.
