Morning Gang -

Hmmmm, didn't realize it's Columbus Day. Since I'm my own boss now, guess I could take it as a paid holiday.

How are you feeling, post-marathon, Tim?

Jen is back in Florida now, hopefully we'll see her around here more often. Are you still injured?

Day off of running for me. Legs are stiff. Might do some biking or attempt pilates later.

Good runs and rests to all!

I have the day off, but I had to take a vacation day because the kiddo's daycare is closed. That's okay, I've still got a zillion vacation days left.

I didn't run yesterday, and don't know howI'll sneak it in today while watching the kiddo. (She's a little sick, so I don't want to take her out in the jogging stroller). But maybe if she takes a nap, I can get in something on the TM...

Probably no run for me today but it's a beautiful day and I'll get some walking done at lunch time. I'm in a work competition that is similar to VRAA so the more miles I can get under my feet, the better.

morning

did 9.25 yesterday at Baker Park (yup Cindi, the loop with all of the hills - pretty this time of year but dang those hills are ENDLESS). It felt mmm okay. Not great and my shin was pinging a bit so I cut it early.

Went home and took a long nap and preparation for a hard lifting session. I only had to do 7 exercises but 5 of them were a 30 rep set. The weight was a little lower than normal so you could get about 15-17 reps your first attempt. When you fail, they give you a 30 second break and then you continue and repeat if necessary up until 30 reps. I can tell you that tomorrow at this time I may not be able to wash my hair or do stairs. youch.

Got up for 3 to shake out the muscles this morning. Just got a flu shot too. sigh

Melissa and/or Jen - are either of you interested in Living History Farms? It is close to selling out. Let me know!

Good morning!!

Nice run for me yesterday, but I can tell I'm not used to the heat. Between the strong bike ride Sat and the run Sun, my legs are a little tired. Tonight is Powerflex!

I am resting my legs today after two stunningly awful/painful runs this weekend. Hope to swim before the Flyers game tonight, but if I don't I'll survive. I'm pretty beat.

Saturday was supposed to be 5.4 tempo, but my average pace was 10 seconds off tempo. Still hurt as though I raced it, though.

Stomach woes kept me inside on the treadmill yesterday for 8 miles. Ouch.

I just woke up.

Which isn't as fabulous as it sounds, since I was up late and then was awake from before 4am till after 7.

Anyway, I remembered to wash wash my gear, so once I change I'll run a few. Was going to do the butt tape but Dh is sleeping with Jack on the floor in the living room. He worked all night and I don't want to wake him up. Dh, not Jack.

I did not get up and run. I thought that being so physically exhausted I'd sleep like a rock. But NOOooooo, I finally got out of bed at midnight and took some Benadryl and then this morning I overslept. boo! BOOOO!

On a brighter note, I'm not as sore as I expected to be. I was totally able to brush my teeth without assistance.

I'll get out for a few miles after work.

Hmmm I'm thinking about Living History Farms, apparently there's a bus from the Byron MN R.E.D. team going and a gal from the marathon training group suggested I contact them and sign up for the race. Guess I better make a decision!

Got a few miles in. After a couple weeks of 47-50°, 65 is YUCKY. Still, it's a gorgeous quiet morning, and I'm really glad to have a run done.
Yep. The marathon I ran in Montana had a few hundred people. It was a point to point closed course, and there weren't any other roads spectators could take to access points of the course. The only people you saw out there were were the water stop people. There were many stretches where there was just no one around - runners, spectators, whatever. I ran the first half with a coach from Akron, but lost him around the half way point, and had to run the 2nd half - which was tough rolling hills - by myself.

It was brutal mentally.

Re: the small marathons. I don't know if I could mentally handle that. The one I was looking at here in MN is only 350 people. I was seriously considering it, then I looked at the details and their last porta potty is at mile 18. That would not have worked for me in 4 out of my 5 last marathons where I had GI issues and needed bathroom immediately between miles 19 - 26!

OH! Forgot. There was guy standing with 2 of his llamas at the edge of his property around mile 19. That was it for spectators until @ mile 25 when I got back into town.

Heh. This describes most of the races that I run.

I'm sorry things didn't work out like you had hoped but I'm pretty sure that this race was just a bump in the road.

At one point, between miles 15 - 20, I could see ahead of me and I turned around and looked behind me and I could see no one. No racers, spectators, or race officials. That can be a little troubling. Now, if you're doing a small race for fun or a training run that's different. But to try and knock out your best performance or a PR, I would say it's more difficult.

Small marathons: Well, y'all have heard me talk a million times about the one I ran in Wyoming. It only had 124 finishers, and yeah, there were times during that race when I couldn't see another human being. If anyone wants more details, check out my Race Report from last summer.

Maria asked about Spring races. I've got my eye on three marathons for the Spring. (1) Little Rock on Mar 5. I cancelled that race this past year, and they allowed me to defer. So I guess I'm already registered, and I might as well do it. (2) That Oz one in Kansas in April, if some of you guys are doing it. And (3) Lake Geneva WI in May. (The exact date apparently hasn't been picked yet, but it was May 8 this year). I talked about doing this one in 2010 before me and my parents all had health issues. My dad was born and raised in Lake Geneva, and my parents met at Univ of Wisconsin, and I think it would be a nice idea to take my parents there for a family vacation. They haven't been to Wisconsin in like 30 years, so I think it would be nice for them to see it one last time. And speaking of small marathons, it only had 112 finishers in 2010. So it's even smaller than Green River WY...
