Oh come on...have a little faith. Your team is playing one named for a grain that is ranked about 30 places lower than the Boilerbuilders.

Oops...Rice 24 Purdue 22

At least Purdue and Rice will be closer in the Power rankings now.

Next week they play PS 32 from some town in Missouri, but after that it's gonna get ugly.

Bad news: Georgia State lost to Old Dominion 40-17 at the Georgia Dome this afternoon.

Good news: (Kerf - don't read this)

UGA lost to South Carolina in Athens tonight in a really close and excellent played game on both sides. Just one of those games that someone had to win, 45-42.

Georgia Tech is leading Middle Tenn 42-14 in the 4th; and it hasn't been as close as it looks.

Too bad I don't drink alcohol - I'd be toasting Coach Johnson tonight. Guess I'll have a glass of powerade instead.

Final update on GT vs MT 49-21, but GT could easily have added another score or two if they wished. It's going to be a joyful road back to Atlanta for all the Tech fans that travelled to Middle Tennessee tonight.

Not really a stellar weekend for the Big 10 - Minnesota lost at home to New Mexico St and Iowa lost to Iowa State. Indiana did better than they did against Ball State last week but lost to Virginia, and Nebraska and Ohio State especially struggled against lower-tier opposition. Only Michigan State, Wisco, Illinois (beating up patsies) and Penn State (losing to a top-ranked team) did what was pretty much expected.

Now Michigan is trying to come back against Notre Dame - who really knows how good those two schools really are at this point.

One of the best traditions of Georgia Tech is playing "budweiser" at the beginning of the 4th quarter of each game. The Tech pep band provided the fanfare for GT fans at Middle Tennessee State Saturay night.

So Mark Richt has one more loss this season at most or he is toast at Georgia.

That means they must beat two of, Florida, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech.

That's reasonable....except they haven't beaten anyone yet.

A loss on Saturday to Coastal Carolina at Athens could be problematic.

I personally like Mark Richt. I think he has done a lot for the UGA program to my chagrin over the years. UGA fans, as well as Florida and Alabama fans can sometimes be a bit unrealistic about winning every game in the SEC in a season. But a loss to Coastal Carolina this weekend would be slightly more than problematic. A public lynching at the 50 yard line at games end might violate NCAA rules.
