Original forecast 36F - 20 MPH winds - rain / snow
Actual weather 36-38F no wind and sunny Wore shorts and a long sleave tech shirt. Race weight - 212# (But feeling light)

5 weeks ago at Point Bock 5 mile run I managed a 6:18 pace - After a solid 4 weeks of training and higher mileage - I had this as a cut back week @ 90 miles. Monday I did 12 with 6 @ LAT instead of 16 miles and Wednesday I did 15 with 4x.75 at Vo2 instead of 18 miles and 6 reps. I then did normal thursday and ran 4 instead of 12-15 on Friday. So a cut back week and one day serious taper.

A perfect April day for a race. I start in the second row - the gun goes off on the downhill start and immediately there are 70+ people ahead of me - This big horse tends to take awhile to get up to speed.

Mile one they call out a 5:50 and the guy next to me is screaming "I'm scewed" - I let him know that all though the course is certified, it is a Gloria West race and the mile markers are almost always off - thet "We are fine", "Just relax" I am going by feel anyway.

Mile 2-5 go by fast - I feel so good, I am just relaxing and holding myself back. We hit 5 miles in 30:57 - If it is accurate?

10K - 38:33 - again if accurate. But this is where it starts not to be effortless and starts to be work. Mile 7-9 are I am just trying to be as effecient as possible - these are the slowest miles - someone(Tony) passes me strongly @ 7.5 - This is great, by mile 8 he has a 15 second lead, but I just focus on him and try to let him pull me along.

Mile 10 @ 62:33 - I feel pretty good again. I just continue to focus on Tony. This is a real asset as a few slower people are falling back to me and it allows me to keep up with Tony not the people that have died.

Mile 12 - I still feel good - I start to think about weather I should make a heroic push to catch up to Tony. I know doing this will leave me hurting for days and decide to just finish strong.

The last .1 is a slight uphill finish and I am floating to the finish - I've run hard, but feel good. 1:21:45.5 - 17th place overall - 1st in "Clydesdales" Tony finishes 15 seconds ahead.

Generally a flat course a few very small ups and downs. A lot of twists and turns and a lot of running on moderate road slant. But with perfect weather - I give it a 7 out of 10(They had Free Point Bock beer afterward .
