I have some birthday money to spend. I'm thinking about clip on aerobars. Son1 and I went to the tri shop. They tried to convince me that I HAD to get aerobars. A must-have for a triathlete. The cheapest they had were $120. What say ye LIT?

for aero bars to work, your hips must come forward and the bars have to drop. most people end up buying a special frame with a much shorter sloping top tube to make them work. Bike shops love selling stuff like that.

I have been using clip ons for a while. While a tri specific frame is obviously the optimum way to go to get aero, I cant imagine racing with out them, particuarly long distance tris. They are lower than my seat level and I end up sitting on the nose of my seat (forward). I would recommend that you get fit with them at a place that is used to fitting triathletes so they can try to get the most out of your setup.

they will allow your shoulders to drop more if you lower the stem and slide the seat way forward
