Nice work over the weekend, everyone! Brandy - hope you are feeling better - sounds like a tough workout.

boB - glad you had such a nice trip.

Hope everyone in the storm fared okay and has minimal clean-up to do!

Rest day as far as running goes here. I am bummed though b/c today was my day to sleep in (until 6 am), but I slept terrible last night. Really bad dreams and up every hour, or so it seemed. Bleh. Bring on the coffee.

Howdy, all.

Bi/Tri work is done for the day. Hopefully I don't forget about core after work. zzzzz.

Fun: Yesterday after a frustrating afternoon of home improvement stuff, I went to visit baby Bleu (neighbor's foal born in mid-July.) Wow, he's grown. He's braver and more confident, too. As usual, I bribed Vegas (momma) with carrots. Then, after she was comfy, I turned my attention to Bleu. Not only did I get to touch his soft nose, he let me pet him on the head, ears, mane, back, and he even got some GOOD hindquarter scratchins going on! He's wanting to nip at my fingers, or he still thought I had something to eat (smelling carrot residue?)

In any case, I was immensely pleased, and somehow, so was my mood. :) I may visit again this evening after mowing the grass. If so, I'll try to remember to get a few pics.

I'm happy to be back home, but I slept like crap last night. At least I'm taking the day off of work, so I can rest a bit. Apparently there's a bit of damage around my town. I didn't notice it last night as we drove in, so maybe I'll wander around and check it out. Thankfully, my house (and, in fact, our whole street) survived just fine. But my neighbors says that the other side of town wasn't so lucky...

The kiddo's daycare is closed today. I suppose they might have some damage there. But I also think they look for any excuse to close. They do this in the Winter when it snows. It seems like they close whenever there's the slightest risk of snow. And of course we don't get any refund of our monthly fees. So anyway, I won't be able to get in the run I want if I have to stay with her all day. I'll call my mother-in-law and see if she can babysit for a few hours...

First day of classes for me! I only teach the one class at 9am, but the day will be filled nonetheless.

Glad to hear that most of our peeps are doing well after the storm. Watching the news this morning made me really feel for those living in Vermont!

morning everyone!

Good luck on the clean up east coast folks....it sounds like most avoided any huge issues but anything is a pain in the arse.

Lifting last night actually went pretty good. Trainer reduced the weight on the adduction and I didn't have to do any long counts/holds on the lower body stuff so that helped. I didn't feel any twinges in my groin. 3 rounds of icing seemed to help immensely and this morning I was able to put full weight on the leg to get my pants on (which I couldn't do yesterday).

I am feeling very pleased with my long run yesterday. Coming off of a heavy training week and not feeling the best I was able to get a pace that puts me under a 4 hr marathon (which is my C goal for the fall). :) I can't imagine how my legs are going to feel and react tapered.

Well, we didn't see much of the hurricane. It's windy and rainy here, but nothing major. Very humid.

Yesterday's half marathon had some good and some bad.

The good: I set a new half marathon PR.

The bad: I didn't crack that stupid 2 hour mark.

Evelyn kept me up late the night before with her fussiness so I only ended up with 4 hours sleep. I had to be up and on the road by 5 AM to get to the race on time. Even without the sleep, I felt fairly decent starting out. The first 3 quarters went really well. I maintained a nice pace, even reeled a few people in by the halfway point. It was quite warm, though (mid 90s with the humidex) and in the last quarter the sun cracked. I started to feel a twinge in my right hamstring. And my belly started to gurgle. I felt myself slowing down some. Still, I thought I had it. Finished in 2:01:07. So close!

I was so tired, I had to pull over twice on the way home to close my eyes for a bit.

Evelyn fell asleep by 10 last night and hardly cried at all when we put her down. And she slept in. I hope she's coming back to where she was!

Two friends of mine from here did the Ironman in BC yesterday. For one of them, it was his first Ironman. He finished in 11:36:49. For the other, a man who's done a few Ironmans (and he's 71 years old) he had to drop out during the run after putting in over 10 hours. He'll be disappointed, but he's still an inspiration!

morning peeps.

We survived without any issues around my house. My landlords are away (this is a trend...they were away when we had the massive snow storm right after Christmas too!), so I had to keep an eye out on the house. I moved all the plants and patio furniture, but my landlady (who is a might anal about...everything) had a neighbor come over and put everything away: grill, furniture, plants. Mind you, I've lived through hurricanes before and knew where I'd put everything it would be fine, but she was insistent. Ah well, just more work for them when they get back.

Tons of trees down in my 'hood, and one took down a power line, but we only lost power for a minute and it came back up, so really? it was pretty uneventful. I cleaned the house, watched 2 movies, and then went to hang out at my neighbors for a while. Then I watched another movie (Hard Day's Night! soooo fun.) and went to bed early. I actually went to bed early both Sat and Sun nights, such a rare event, it would have to say it's been years since that's happened.

Maria and Missy, how did you fare?

Mindi, I got a Google Nexus phone. So far, so good! Uses a ton of power though, which I'm not going to like but it's sleek, fast (4G coverage), has built in WiFi, and I got a nifty purple case for it. ;)

So...I have a run to report. :) I went out this morning (unheard of!) because I woke up around 6 and was awake. Just did maybe 2 mi? And i had to do intervals of walking and running...it seems whatever residual fitness I had has completely gone away in the last two months. I've noticed I've gained a lot of weight in that time, and I have no stamina at all. :( Anyway, since my watch battery is dead, I just ran for one song, then walked for one song. Had to dodge lots of downed trees (I didn't realize the cemetery was closed until on the landscapers told me I had to leave), but it was fine. Some tummy issues (not unexpected, it's why I don't run in the morning), but all in all, I was happy I got out. First step back, right?

Congrats Colleen on your race!!!! you'll get below 2 soon enough, I'm sure. Congrats, Tim too!

Nice runs everyone else. Very inspirational!

tonight, I have a golf lesson over at MIT with A and some of his colleagues. Should be fun!

Clare - Nice work on the PR. And with 4 hours of sleep and 90+ degrees? You definitely have sub-2 in the bag once nicer conditions come your way!!

Sub-12 hours for IM is quite impressive. And doing one at 71?!?!

Moe- enjoy your new phone! I want to get a 4G one, but haven't been ready to throw down the cash for one. And smart phones are awesome, but they sure to suck battery fast.

Glad you had a good workout last night, Brandy! Only a few more big weeks before we get to taper!!

Have a good first day back, Tonya.

Ailarie - have fun with the horses! I can't get too up close and personal with them or they make me all sneezy and miserable.

good morning!!

the storm def weakened by the time it hit us so we escaped completely unscathed, thankfully. there were some trees down in our area but no major damage or power issues. apparently, the bronx river about 1 mile away has overflown its banks so i imagine its pretty messy there. also, that affects my commute tomorrow as the commuter trains are not running. eek. hoping they can clear up the problems today. i shudder to think of driving into the city tomorrow with every other person who depends on the train...

sounds like LL got through just fine but PT's last tweet was pretty bad. good thoughts out to his family and everyone else affected.

hoping the rest of the east coast crew will check in soon...

congrats to clare on the PR! NYCM is looking great for you this fall!

awesome weeks, mindi and brandy!! nicely done - excited to see your fall marathon performances!

its going to be a busy week - i work tues and wed and then AK and i leave first thing thurs morning for chicago. i managed to salvage my retreat with friends i haven't seen in FOREVER - we'll be staying through sat (but sadly, no time to head to the lake house and visit amy!) and then headed to LA for the funeral. i'm SUPER nervous about flying with AK.... alone. shes a snack whore (like her momma!) so i'll just plan to bring a mini grocery store with me. but still. those of you who have flown with small children.... KNOW. hell, those of you who have been on a flight with a rambunctious baby/toddler KNOW. please, please, please don't let me be THAT MOM with THAT BABY. heh.

Morning all! Really great running by peeps here, thanks for all the inspiration!! The storm didn't effect us much, we had a lot of rain and both the East & Hudson Rivers flooded but have receded since; lots of downed trees including one behind our building. J and I were chilling inside yesterday, watching tv, and there's this tree behind the building behind us that we always use as a sort of barometer for how windy it is outside. So yesterday it's super windy here, the tree is blowing like mad and then at one point late in the afternoon, it just blows over. NUTS b/c we saw it happen, was like super slo-mo. No one was outside in the yard it landed in, luckily. Subways are back up running this morning, albeit with some delays, so I did make it into the office although I should have just worked from home ...tons of people are out here and the weather today is MEGA-gorgeous!!

Congratulations Colleen!

Way to go Maureen, always a great way to start the day!

Missy - glad you are able to get to Chicago, that sounds fun

HI All!

I've been away the last few weeks vacationing and spending time with the fam before everything picks up again. It was lovely and relaxing and just what I needed to recharge my batteries! But forgive me for being pitifully behind on news here.

I'm back to work at school this week. Kids start next Tuesday. LOTS to do before then!

I'm back on the 5am running train. Went VERY well this morning. I've really struggled since my pitiful HM last May, so it was nice to feel SO good this morning. I've lost a few pounds, so that definitely helps.

I'm hoping Irene didn't cause folks much heartache. We got rain, but nothing compared to further south.

DS was at the LLWS games this weekend and was interviewed by ESPN on Saturday. Of course, we missed it. We were at camp and thought we could get the games there, because we get ESPN on the dish. But this weekend's games were actually broadcast on ABC, which we can't get there. And we didn't set up the DVR at home, b/c we thought we could see it at camp. Argh. But he had a great time. On Sunday they hung out with the West team and got hats and autographs. It's pretty neat.

Have a good Monday!

Morning all!

clare - nicely done on the HM. Better conditions and you have 1:59:59 in the bag!

Mindy and Brandy continue to inspire!

I am using a lot of exclamation points!

We got through Irene in pretty good shape. Some water in the basement (not too much), and a couple of downed trees. No internet access, but we have power, which a lot of folks I know do not. Had 2 of my DDs girlfriends sleep over because they did not have power. Kids were supposed to start school today, but that was cancelled. Might not start for a few days.

No run since Thursday, between prepping and clean up... Bah.

Glad to hear that those checking in have fared okay from Irene. Hope PT has a break in his luck.

Clarebear - bummer about not getting that 2.0 mark, but between little sleep and icky conditions for the last part, you still did amazing. You're gonna break 2.0 soon. I just know it.

NCRG - Cool beans on DS's televised interview! Maybe it's available on the local ABC station's website?

Ugh.. The AC is out of the office. Again. Came in at 8am and it was already 81F. My office is always warmer than what the thermostat reads, as i have 3 desktops in here for data conversions. I've no idea how warm it is now, but I'm sweating (as are co-workers.) If this isn't cleared up in the next 30 minutes, I'm going to work at home for the rest of the day.

I just asked A if he wants to try to get in 9 holes right after work instead, but it gets dark early now, I don't know if we have enough time.

Hey folks!!

Been a while since I have been here. things are ridiculous right now! Dealing with a situation at work that is very unpleasant, totally out of my realm of responsibility, and quite frankly, freaking me the heck out!! And next week DH starts back to work full time so I am kind of a fruit loop over the idea of the kids being in daycare/school full time.

Running was going really well, then it ceased. I was getting into work aroun 5:30am and leaving after 4 so I have been zapped of energy! But I have a half in Nov so I NEED to get back on track.

Oh, yeah, Irene. We did ok, had some emergency tree removal on Sat morning (HUGE tree that was hollow all the way down, the tree guy said it was so bad he moved us to the top of the list!!), no damage to the house or family. Some nearby areas are a mess though, I have lots of friends still without power and trying to bail their houses out.

Ok, gotta get back to work!! Really hoping to be able to check in more often, miss you all!!

Yes. We. Do.

Hello hello, all. I am woefully behind in the 30s news. We were on vacation for a week, and then work has been absolutely swamped since (right before I left too, but even more so since I returned). No end in sight for the workload, which is OK because I love my job and adore my boss. The days fly by. The OT will be increasing, though, so I've already notified the Y that I have to give up my evening classes. Boo.

Dad is back in the hospital as of last night. He'd been in the hospital for 6 days, then in an inpatient rehab/assisted living facility for the past 3 or so weeks, so he hasn't been home in at least a month. Guess who is getting his mail, paying his bills, doing his laundry, cleaning out his fridge, cleaning his apartment, dealing with all the doctors/nurses/socialworkers/therapists, etc? Oh yeah, that would be me. Plus wedding stuff (5 days!), plus doctor's appointments for me, plus work, plus trying to not gain back the weight I lost and the fitness I gained, plus an earthquake, multiple tornadoes, and a hurricane all in the past few weeks. Basically, I'm a stress grenade right now!

I'm really sorry I don't know what's going on in everyone's life, so I will just wish everyone a happy day. Good vibes if you need them, glad everyone seems to be OK from the weekend's storm (we had fairly significant flooding in our basement, but our power never went out thank goodness), hope all are well, and that's about it from me. And I know my grammar sucks, but I'm too busy to edit!

P.S. I'm in love with Beaker's avatar!
