Hey there! Ok, ok...so I'm late with this! But as those of you who have small children know, you're on their schedule...not your own. Just one of the many things I've learned since becoming a mom!

QUESTIONS

1. Why do you run? I started running a few years back...hmm, maybe 8 years or so? The main reason was because I wanted to do something that'd be good for me, help me maintain my weight while at the same time allow me to eat the things I like. I'm not very good at sports that require coordination, like catching a ball, throwing a ball, hitting a ball. And anytime I'd see a runner go by, I always thought, "That looks so invigorating and free..." So I decided to give it a go. At first I couldn't run a minute without feeling like I was gonna hurl. It was pretty discouraging. But then a friend of mine who was a trainer for a university track team gave me a program for beginner runners. By following that, I was up to 20 minutes of running in no time.

2. What is your greatest accomplishment? I suppose you mean running accomplishments? If so, I'd say completing my first marathon, even though it wasn't quite the finish I was hoping for. Still, I trained for months and I finished with a smile on my face so I was proud of myself for sticking with it. I'd like to do another one someday.

3. What is your motto/theme song? I don't have one of these...yet...

4. How do you deal with bad runs? Bitch and whine, same as everyone else! hee hee! Just kidding! Well, maybe sometimes I bitch and whine. But most times I just suck it up and think, "Well, I still got out there and did it, which is better than nothing!" There'll always be bad runs, but there's always more great ones.

5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How? Sometimes I'll eat something I really enjoy. Other times a hot shower is reward enough.

6. Who do you admire most? My parents, especially my mom. She brought 4 of us up on her own and I know it wasn't easy. Now that I'm a mom myself, I can't believe how well she did. It's hard enough with one and I'm not even doing this by myself. She rocks, no doubt about it. And she's still out there helping people. She runs a food bank/community kitchen and feeds hundreds of people, both body and soul, every day.

7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received? After I finished my first university degree, I decided to move even further away from home and start a new degree program. I was by myself and very lonely. I ached to come home but I was worried that people would see me as a failure and I didn't want to disappoint anyone. One very miserable evening I was on the phone with my step-dad and he said, "It doesn't matter what you do...if you want to stay or come home...we still love you and we're still proud of you and support whatever decision you make! Do what you feel is right for you!"

8. What do wish you had learned younger? Money management!!

9. What do you wish you could do but can't? Sing! I guess we can all sing, but I'd love to be able to sing well!

10. How would your friends describe your personality? A good friend of mine once described me this way: She needs to eat and she needs to sleep. I thought that was kinda funny, but it's pretty true. I'd say my friends would see me as a fun person who enjoys life and enjoys spending time with those she cares about.

11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit? In the summer, a running skirt and tank. Winter, tights and my new MEC jacket.

12. What has been your favorite race? I love the Cabot Trail Relay. More than a race, it's a whole weekend of laughs and challenges and I look forward to it every year.

13. Do you have a goal race right now? I'd like to get a PR in the half distance. I've done a couple of half marathons since I had my baby last june but I haven't been able to get back down to my pre-baby speed (or lack of speed...). So right now I'm in a winter training group and I'm focusing on the half. I'm not sure which half I'll do, but right now it's looking like it'll be the Fredericton, NB one (that's where I'm living now).

14. What makes you happy? My baby girl! I love seeing her little face first thing in the morning, smiling back at me! She just makes my day!

15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past. I'm considering a major career change. I've mentioned it to a couple of people but haven't talked a lot about it yet. I'm worried I'll jinx myself. Right now I'm a community planner but I'd like to open my own running store back in my home town. I've done quite a bit of research on it so far. All that's left now is a job for my husband, so we have some cash flow while the business is getting up and running. I really hope we can make a go of it!

16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!). Well, I haven't read a lot of posts in this part of Kick, so I'm not really sure. I will say that my first experience with a poster from here was with Notey when I was in Philly. He was my partner in crime at the bar, persuading the bartender to put the NASCAR race on the tv. While most people tease me for enjoying car racing, it was fun to have someone else there to talk track with.
