goal: beat last year's time of 45:55, preferably under 42:30 so i can qualify for a higher corral for next year

secret goal: closer to 41:ish since that was my fastest time trial in training for this race

long term goal: sub 40

this is the first winter i've trained through and i was anxious to see some fruit of my labor with all the dreadmill miles i've logged and all the times i risked my life out on the icy roads

i lined up in corral C (btw, corral starts rock!!!) with a few mins to go and edged up as close to corral B as possible since i planned on running their speed. we started and going under the bridge, i kept looking for DH who was supposed to be there taking pictures.. i didn't see him so i was worried that he got paged and had to go in (he was on call).

splits:

mile 1- 8:13. i hit the wrong button on my watch and it started recycling the time and not recording the cumulative time.. i tried to take a deep breath and chillax. my first mile felt really laborous.. probably b/c i was stressed about not seeing dh and my watch going wacko.

mile 2- 7:40. felt strong.

mile 3- i missed this mile marker so i just restarted the time when i figured i missed the marker.

mile 4- 6:40 which was an error due to my last mile mess up. i restarted at this mile and started my final kick. as i turned the corner at harrison and michigan, voila! there was DH.. i managed to give him a thumbs up even though i didn't feel thumbsup-ish.

last 0.97- 7:43. i really kicked it into high gear and allowed myself to stride out. i latched on to another girl about 3 strides ahead of me and stared hard at her green jacket and willed myself up roosevelt ramp.. it was not easy but i've run up this ramp many times and i knew this ramp was MINE.

final time: 39:55, avg 8:02/mile

i didn't find this out until i went home since my watch hadn't picked up the time correctly... and i was tickled pink. i've been working really hard and its nice to see it pay off. i felt like i ran a strong race and really left everything out on the course.. and never in my wildest dreams did i think i'd break 40 today thanks for letting me a total and complete attention whore

and here are some pics. DH's disclaimer is that he didn't set the shutter speed high enough so they didn't turn out the way he would like them to have.. but being a non-photog person myself i don't see anything wrong with them
