I'll spare you the icky details, but.....ummm....maybe I don't need that detox diet after all. Whew. My system is wigging out with all this beans, lentils, high fiber cereal stuff. I didn't realize how much crap (pun intended) I must have been eating for the last couple months. Now that I'm trying to do more fruits, veggies and legumes, my GI tract is rebelling a little. I already eat grainy bread/rolls and pasta when I eat it, and brown rice and all that stuff, but I do eat a lot of garbage during the week since I eat on the run a lot. Apparently I have let things get out of hand more than I realized. Eek.

Does it level off after your system gets used to a different influx of foods? I don't remember it being this bad when I first started making switches in my diet years ago.

Everyone's system is different ... I'm not sure and probably the veg people can tell you more.

Since you are increasing your fiber, are you also increasing your water intake? That can help with some digestive issues.

I am increasing the water, mainly because it's summer and I need more, and it's not lack of output that's the problem, it's "oh, man....again? Didn't I just go?" I rarely have problems with being blocked up, thank goodness, but this is getting annoying.

I'm sorry; I've been a veg for 15 years and can't remember if the diet affected my digestive system that much. But I don't think so. I hope it gets better for you!

I will tell you that when I first went veg, I did so by following the Fit for Life program. I was eating mostly unprocessed fruits and veggies and about a week into the diet, I felt flu-like symptoms one day, coinciding with diarrhea that lasted for a couple of days. After that, the pounds just started melting off. The book predicted this, and described it as the intestines being cleaned out. Not sure if that's what you're going through?

No flu like symptoms yet, but I'm probably not going to go totally veg, although this weekend, other than the sushi, I haven't really eaten any meat. I'm just trying to add more, or maybe eventually I'll go pesco-veg, although I know "real" veg's say that isn't veg. But I would DIE without my fish! I'm sure it's just the recent influx of far healthier and more high fiberish stuff than I've been eating. I just hope it stops soon.
