For some reason,I feel awkward and I find it difficult. Tell me my running impresses you and I'll respond by saying it's not where I'd like it to be. Tell me that getting my bachelor's while working full time, doing the whole family thing, dealing with a 49 mile commute and training for a marathon was impressive, and I'll respond with the fact that my GPA wasn't fabulous.

So in addition to sharing your stories on how well or poorly you take compliments, I invite you all to compliment me profusely so I can get some practice at accepting them graciously.

I also get embarassed and downplay it. I shouldn't do that. I need to learn to just say Thank You and let it go.

A simple thank you will suffice. Then just change the subject.

I usually say "Thank you" and add 'That's very kind' and smile. If they have nice breath- I'll give them a snog.

I usually downplay it, and then totally agree with what they said.

My gut reaction, sometimes I don't take compliments well. I've gotten much better at it, though. Sometimes it depends on what the compliment is about. If I agree with it, I take it much better than if it's something I'm sensitive about, obviously.

Pete: I've already complimented you. Compliment hog!

I'm similar to HP in this way...except for the snog part.

DH probably wouldn't approve.

It's taken me years to get to that point though and I still down play it. But I usually say, "oh, thanks, you're too kind" or some such. Unless it's about clothes...then I always have to tell the person that it's old or it was inexpensive or a deal.

I should probably stop that.
