Badass, I run with regular Thorlo socks (not the running ones, I wear the level 3, which are the most cushioned ones). They wick wonderfully, don't bunch up and keep my feet warm, and I don't get blisters, VEEEEEEERY rarely in the Summer. They do have boot socks, or over-the-calf socks.
Why don't you give those a shot? Try 1 pair. They last a loooong time.
http://www.thorlo.com/ws6/search.php

I got some Under Armour crew length socks at Cabelas that I really like. Very soft but not too thick. Very comfortable. Unfortunately, I can't find them online. I believe they were $12 for two pair. I've worn them quite a few times already and I'm happy with them.

I tried a pair of ski socks. They work great! I think they're North Face.

I was having a devil of a time finding high enough socks for women. That particular store only had huge men's crewsocks.

In desperation, I turned to the ski socks and am quite pleased.
