On Thursday on the front edge of the storm, leaving at 7:45 am from Chapoquoit beach..supported by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Staff I swam across this darn choppy and bumpy piece of water. Good thing I had such good support (and the MIT USMS coach-if you are in the area you should check out his team, he knows open water). It took just under 5 hours, it featured winds at 25-30 knots gusting to 40. Swell that tumbled me and left me more disoriented than I've ever been! Sure was glad to make it onto Angelica Point, Mattapoisett,@ 9 statue miles later! that turned out to be only part of the challenge getting fromt he RHIB to the support boat without any injuries was really hard too! I admit I looked at what was coming at me and was terrified but the idea of trying to get out was even more scary. it was more tiring the Anacapa crossing.

So now I'm headed back to the Waltham area (hoping I find a hotel) for sat-sun and want a short swim in Walden pond and some ice cream-who will join me?

Woo hoo! Sounds like a brutal swim. I figure swells big enough to disorient you had to be huge. I recall that he 4ft swells I had in my first try were inconsequential in your book.

Congrats on notching another big one. Once you get settled and rested, I'd love to see a route map.

#1-3 were scouting points possible start/finish locations. #27 is where the RHIB waited offshore at the finish and I had to swim back to it. The route was supposed to go the other direction (so the press and others could greet us) but the wind had a different opinon.

Wow!

Love it.

Although the disorienting swell doesn't sound "fun" as a "during the moment" sort of thing....

it does sound sorta fun AFTER you're finished. Rather like.... I DID THAT!!!! Look out there....I DID THAT!!!

Don't you feel that way?

I feel that way FOR you.

I could probably do a meet up at Walden Pond on Sunday afternoon. (I was out with the dogs all day today.)

Am heading out for tonight, but shoot me an email ([email protected], or post here) regarding what time you were thinking about.

I have no idea how many people might be there.

That is totally and completely insane that you swam for almost five hours in such chaotic conditions. That is a tremendous achievement, I am in total awe.
