has anyone else had any problems with their yak trax snapping? I bought a new pair the begininning of Jan and have put around 90 miles on them so far. I noticed about 2wks after I bought them that on the bottom of one, it had snapped and the coil was loose. I noticed the same thing on the other one yesterday. They are snapping in the heel area. I can still run in them, but I thought they would last more then 6wks. The only thing I can think of is that some of the time I have had to run on clear sidewalks/bike trails with them. But the routes I run are mostly sidewalks/asphlat bike trails and half of them are clear and then I will hit a stretch where they are snow packed or icy, so I need them in these areas. Could this have caused them to snap?

I am going on year 3 with my same pair of Yaks. I try to avoid any asphalt and when I run on the trail I will weave around the bare spots. Yes, I do have a couple of snapped coils, but as long as they elastic portion is still intact I will keep on using them as needed.

FYI: The broke coil happened in the first year!

Todd I am amazed yours lasted that long, I am on my second set, the rubber part pulled apart on both sides of one shoe. The surfaces I am running on can go from small rock mixed with snow to snowpack quite rapidly and I don't like putting them on and taking them off all the time. I think there is a potential there for a better design. I don't think they were designed for running. Larry

Well just an update on my broken yaktrax..went out for a short run Sat and was wearing the yaktrax.....about 15 min into my run..I go down into a pile of snow (thank goodness these people do not shovel their sidewalks) turns out a piece of the rubber snapped apart again and another coil had come undone and was sticking straight out along the inside of my right shoe, it had caught the lace on my left shoe and down I went. I am ok...a little bruised ego, but nothing I cannot laugh off. SO I get up and try to fix the yaktrax. I can not get the coil off, so I wrap it around a piece of rubber on the yaktrax and start running again, making sure to look down every minute or so to check to make sure it has not sprung back out. Well it did and i did not notice until I go down again, this time on hard cement. These people shoveled . I am pretty stiff and sore still today. I am sure I jarred my shoulders and back when landing. Bumped my nose and my lip too, it was pretty much a face plant on cement. I am lucky that is the worst of what happened. I am taking these back....do not do what I did and continue to run on them....lesson learned unfortunately.

Ouch...sorry to hear of your misfortune. Fortunately mine have yet to break any of the elastic areas. I will be sure to check them before I go out for a run.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I used to work at a store that sold them and I would advise people who were buying them to size up at least one size. Like the rubber bands that they are, they cut more easily when stretched farther, and the manufacturer sizes them darn tight.

Shameless plug- If you're sick of busting yak tracks, and want to step up to some serious traction action, and have feet that are around a men's 8-9.5, how about a pair of Kahtoola Flight Boots? http://www.kahtoola.com/flight-boot.html##

I recently received a brand new pair of Mediums that are too small for me, but too large for my girlfriend. $150 retail. $75 takes them.
