In GA, you have to be over the age of 18 to ride a bicycle without a helmet.<br><br>
This ran in today's newspaper.<br><br><img alt="" src="http://i32.tinypic.com/2zs0j8p.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br>
/not that I believe helmets are magic hats but they do have their purpose<br>

Nationwide Children's Hospital Urgent Care (our second home...)--they have a chart with things to keep your kid safe. One is a bicycle helmet. Of course, in the photo, the helmet is positioned wrong.

That picture is a poster of what NOT to do. the third kid back has a helmet on, hanging him.<br><br>
I dare someone to tell the parent that the kid needs a helmet. I can hear the BS already. Then the kid falls and cracks her head open. "Nobody told me to have her wear a helmet."<br><br><b>WAKE UP PEOPLE</b><br><br>

If kids don't see their parents wearing a helmet they won't wear one. I've noticed a sharp decline in helmet wearing by cyclists locally. Hopefully they signed their donor cards!

CS--good eye. That's exactly what the picture in the ER shows.<br><br>
It really is quite easy to get kids to wear a helmet. Let them pick it out. Then the simple rule: no helmet=no bike. Worked great until son #2 turned 12, and his friends didn't have to wear a helmet. Not a problem. We locked up his bike until he chose to wear a helmet. Lasted a month.

People rent bikes from the Silver Comet trail...they make you take the helmet...you wouldn't believe how many bike renters or owners are riding the trail with:<br>
1. The helmet on their handlebars dangling<br><br>
2. Their helmet on and NOT strapped.

Seriously, I definitely wouldn't ride without a helmet around this neck of the woods. That goes double for kids, but I see them about equally helmeted/helmetless around here

I'm less concerned with cyclists not wearing a helmet on the Silver Comet, with no motorized traffic, than them not wearing it on roads. Not that I'd encourage it, but it just concerns me far less.

Heather...I've seen PLENTY of accidents on the trail. There was one this year...didn't see it...where a cyclist crashed...WITH helmet and was critical.<br><br>
In a 2 hour ride I crossed THIRTY intersections.<br><br>
It's not as safe as you think...just sayin<br><br>
Oh...and the dumb asshole riders on the trail almost caused me to spill a bunch of times...imagine someone who's not a good bike handler.
