Morning!

GO DUCK & JEN!!! (Is anyone else running Boston? I can't remember.)

I'm up early to glaze a kiln load. If I can get this (and the floors) done early enough I'd like to try a few miles and see how it goes.

Greetings all!

I'm up for what is probably going to be a monsoon-fest of a 10k. Not entirely sure I want to run in soaking rain for that distance. Meh! I'll probably do it anyway. I'm up. I paid for the thing. Might as well get my money's worth, eh?

Good luck to our weekend (and monday) racers!

Well..... Hard to say until it happens, cause weather here changes that fast. It's 55 here today, but supah freakin' windy. (I heard 40something mile gusts, high 20s sustained on the news this morning. We have a wind advisory going on). And it's been pouring on and off.

Tomorrow is supposed to be drier, with @30mph wind.

Yah. 10K done + another 3M after. Knocked a teeny tiny bit off of last year's time, though the course was somewhat altered (more 90 degree turns), so I'm not entirely sure how to compare things. Still - 2nd best 10k time ever, so I'm happy.

Note to self (and others) Though this would seem obvious, do NOT start a new/different core routine the evening before a race or LR. OUCHIES!!

On a good note though - yesterday I picked up my race packet with a XL shirt. I thought I ordered the T-shirt, and figured it would shrink after a wash. Turns out, I got a tech shirt. A big enough to sleep in, tech shirt. I went back this morning before the race, and asked if they had enough extras where I could exchange it for a L. Turns out, a M was just fine. Bless this lady's soul, the volunteer looked at me and said "Do you want a small, honey?"!

I could have kissed her. Instead, I thanked her and said that a small would accentuate things I didn't really want to accentuate, and said I'd stick with the M.

Whee.

Off for a strange form of cross training - setting up some sod squares and tomato plants!

Happy trails, everyone!

Way to go Ailarie! Best wishes to the Boston folk and everyone else.

I completed my 5 miler. The temp was super (about 47) but it was very windy. That was nice though as it refreshed me as I went along. It was a struggle to complete but I made it. I ran for a little over an hour. So in the end I patted myself on the back and mentally celebrated the dual victory of being able to run 5 miles and go for over an hour with no stops.

Something odd did happen afterward I completed the run. As I approached the parking lot I saw a crowd of people. A group was having a 5k walk for MS. I did not know about it else I probably would have participated since our associate pastor at church has MS and really encourages folks to participate to raise money for MS. Well I stopped before I got to the SUV as I saw several friends and enjoyed chatting. After about a half hour or so I left. I decided to zip by the post office since it was only a mile away. Well when I stepped out of the SUV to step inside the post office the left side of my lower left leg hit me with a major pain. I limped into and out of the post office. That was very odd. I wonder if the long taxing (for me) run followed by standing still for 30 minutes in shorts in 47 degrees with a howling cold wind might have affected the muscles? When I got home I stretched as normal then I soaked my legs in a hot bath as I tried to keep stretching and massaging the left leg. It is not the calf or shin but on the outer side of the lower leg. It feels better now but has a sore type feeling already- but thankfully not that intense pain that was there at the post office. I hope it is nothing. Other than mowing the grass I am going to take it easy for the rest of the day and probably won't be on my feet a lot.

Any thoughts on that sudden sharp pain on the outer, lower leg?

Have a great day all.

Maples, sounds like you've hit the nail on the head. The same exact thing happened to my friend after running on the treadmill this winter she was in a hurry and thought she'd just zip to her car in her shorts and her calf seized up on her, very painful. Pilates this morning, followed by my favorite cable strength class, followed by a mile on the treadmill, followed by Huevos Rancheros! Yum. Good luck run fast run pretty vibes to all our racers this weekend! Jen, Duck, Kathleen, who else is racing?

Yipee Ailarie on the speedy 10k! Awesome!!

Nice work on the 5 miles Maples. Take care of that leg pain.

I didn't end up seeing Baggs or Brandy at Earth Day HM. Haven't seen results either, so I don't know how they did. It was windy (about 17mph?) and chilly (about 33), but at least the snow was done, so we didn't have that to deal with. I ended up doing it at hard training run effort rather than race effort. I started garmin too early, so not sure what I ended up with, but I think it should be 1:51:00.

Hope the Boston Peeps are having a blast - soaking it all up.

Yay - congrats Ailarie and RFTL. It has been cold (30s), rainy and supah windy here. Last night, my neighbors (one of whom ran with me today) talked me into having a couple glasses of wine and staying up a wee bit too late. I normally wouldn't drink before a race, but we knew the weather was going to be the suck and it was fun to get together.

This morning it was cold and windy, but fortunately it was not raining during the race. I ended up 4th female with a 21:35. My 2 friends did great - one even PRed. So it was really fun. For some reason I tend to have really slow 5Ks just before marathons, so I was really happy with my time and pacing.

Maples - Might I recommend an epsom (epson?) salt bath. Good stuff for muscles that are being argumentative. :)

BigG - The words "Cable strength class' scare the crap out of me! :) You go, girlfriend!

RTFL - Dayum, you are swooft!

RIL - Dayum, you are swooft too!

Sod is now set out. Yah for a funky form of cross training. Weed/feed sprayed. No tomato planting however. Stupid black ants have taken over my raised bed, damnit! Gotta head back to Home Depot for some sort of ant bait and let that work over a few days/week before I can plant. /grumble.

I saw Brandy's results too, fast Midwest chicks out there today!!

oh boy do I WISH I was in my yard working! I saw my neighbor out with a big machine in his yard - aerator perhaps?- wearing boots and a winter coat. This is ridiculous.

Cable strength class, one of these days I'll take a photo of the cable thing. You'd love it. It's such an AWESOME class - I usually feel pukey during it and that good muscle soreness after which makes me feel like I'm realllly working out. yes!!

I think I might watch movies and lay on the couch and eat for the rest of the day. It's so crappy out. blech.

The good news is, the forecast for Boston looks pretty good for Monday. Hopefully that wind will die down a little and stay westerly and it will be very very nice.

Afternoon all! We've got a damp, gray day here too with crazy winds; a perfect day for doing nothing alas we've got stuff on tap. I did get out for 7.75 miles along the bridle path, easy and steady and quite enjoyable. As I arrived home J's brother, sister-in-law and their kiddos were over dropping off the youngest, Keaton. He's hanging out w/us while the rest of the family goes to see Lion King and we're meeting up for an early dinner, really wish it were nicer outside as it's fun to run around with the crazy, little guy. Here he is chilling out on the couch and then looking under the bed for Dillon

I think I dodged a bullet. The legs feel fine other than normal feeling after what was a long run for me. For a time there this morning I was bummed that I had sustained an injury and might miss the 10k. Today was another step forward in my career. It's always good to learn from your experiences.

Thank you for the concern and well wishes.
