I've logged 430 miles since 1-1-11 in prep for a May 1st full marathon. I'm in my two week taper and I've got some serious discomfort behind both knees. Stretching like mad, weekly deep tissue massage, compression, ice and ibuprofen. With 13 days until the marathon, what have I overlooked? My last long run was 20 miles a few days ago. Do I even do a short run this week? Next week? Any thoughts? This is my second full.

I'm sorry you've not received any replies to your post. Although we don't have the type of traffic one would hope for a running forum, we do try to stay on top of this forum and respond. I've been out of country and traveling without much access here or I would have replied earlier.

The issue and pain you are describing is simply to complex to even want to have 'advise' from a forum. I've had similar issues and something like that - I simply go to my doctor!

The cause of my issue was changing up shoes during my training - which changed my gait just enough to cause my outer knee to become inflamed.

Had I saw your post last month when you posted it, I would have suggested you start with a running doctor to make sure you didn't have any serious damage.

I guess, based on the dates of your post, you've either ran your marathon or missed it. If you choose to return, I'd love to read about your run
