1. Why do you run?
I started running earlier this year. My youngest was 7 or 8 months old. She was exclusively breastfed and I constantly had her or my other 2 on me at all times. I wanted to do something by myself. I had lost 30 pounds of baby #2 weight on Weight Watchers and I wanted to try something new.
I was a cheerleader in high school and I did color guard. However I was always a bigger girl. I never thought that I could run. I decided that I wasn't getting any younger and I really wanted to do a 5k. I talked with a friend on another forum and he set me up with a beginners plan.
Since then I've enjoyed my running more and more. Some days I dread it but other days I NEED it. It was hard at first to make it a priority but now even my daughters want to run with me.
Right now I'm currently training for my first Marathon with Team in Training. It's a great organization and it gives me that extra push to make sure I run. It's hard with my PF but it's at least keeping me moving on my bike. I would have just skipped exercising all together but I have this committment to Mark, Zoe, Stephanie, and myself.

2. What is your greatest accomplishment?
WOW. I am going to go with my children- especially the last one since I gave birth to her without the aid of pain relieving drugs.
running wise- I think accomplishing the Marathon Relay. My foot hurt like hell and for the first 3 miles I thought about dying on the side of the road. However I kept on going. My team was counting on me to finish. I was the only one with some kind of "distance" experience. It was the toughest 7.6 miles I have ever done.

3. What is your motto/theme song?
I do not regret the things I have done, just those I did not do.
Lucas- Empire Records
It just helps to keep me going. I can't change any of the mistakes I have made. All I can do is learn from them. I have a list of things I need to do by the time I'm 30. This motto also helps me to keep that in perspective.

4. How do you deal with bad runs?
I try to tell myself that the next one will be great. Since I'm still new to running many of my runs are tough because of the new distance, PF pain, or location. I just try to look at them from a learning experience and take from them what I can to make the next run rock.

5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?
At first when I would PR I would buy myself a new running skirt. Now I have 4 skirts and a dress. Now when I have a great run I just praise myself for the hard work I put into. I love a good run after himhawing to get out and do at least a mile. It's the most rewarding feeling at that point.

6. Who do you admire most?
Honestly I don't know. I try to take bits of information and wisdom from everyone to make me the best me I can be. Corny I know but no one has my life so it's hard to find someone that resembles it. There is nothing that someone else has that I can't have if I am focus, hard working, and consistant.

7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?
SLOW DOWN!

8. What do wish you had learned younger?
Healthy eating habits.
I have always loved to exercise. I"m an emotional eater and I always have been. When my grandfather died in 1990 I had a hard time dealing with it at just 10 years old. I ate to comfort myself and it helped that I was in a home with a food pusher. It was always "Nikki just eat this so I don't have to put it away and I can clean the dish." The worst is that my food pusher was the woman who critized my weight the most- my mother.
I hope that I am able to give my daughter the RIGHT body image and the RIGHT tools to grow up healthy.

9. What do you wish you could do but can't?
I wish I could control my emotional eating with something else. I'm attempting to do it with exercise however being the mom of 3 it's difficult to go potty by myself.
Also, I wish I could not be so senstive (shoot that might help out with the eating!). I wear my heart on my sleeve and I feel like I have it ripped off daily by people in my life. I try to not be so senstive but I'm very critical of myself so when other people hurt me emotionally it's easy to fall back into the negative talk.
And...I'd love to be a stay at home mom forever. I would honestly have 25 kids if that is what God was willing to give me. I have always wanted to be a mother. It has always been my #1 job. I gave up my opportunity to be a teacher because I was told that "you need to make your students your #1 priority not your children" by another teacher when I was student teaching. Nope sorry. I expect MY students to be #1 in their parents' hearts and how can I be a good role model if MY children are not in mine.

10. How would your friends describe your personality?
Crazy, outlandish, bubbly, flirty, but extremely shy

11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?
i always wear a skirt. I ran in shorts ONCE and I hated it. I love the freedom for my legs. Body Glide is like my best friend.

12. What has been your favorite race?
Akron Marathon (relay)
An amazing energy in the race by the crowd and the runners. It was great to see all of the people out there doing what just seems so amazing to me.

13. Do you have a goal race right now?
PF Chang's Arizona Rock and Roll Marathon - January 13th (2 days after my birthday!)

14. What makes you happy?
Being loved by those I love
A great song to sing along and dance to
Homemade Mac and Cheese

15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.
This one is hard. I have no shame and I will talk about anything.
Okay here we go
My favorite movies are Steel Magnolias and Pulp Fiction. Makes sense doesn't it?

16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!).
All of the Running Moms and Dads are absolutly amazing. I do not think I would still be running without their love and support. I can't wait to meet all of them.

OMG I think I cried like twice while I was writing this post. Sheesh.
If you wanna ask me questions, the floor is open. I will answer anything. I have no shame.

BikerMama, thanks for sharing part of your life with us. I love these.

What kind of songs do you have on your mp3 player? Which songs makes you want to dance freakishly (maybe like Antag) in the middle of the road?

Right now I LOVE MIKA!

His crazy songs keep me moving. I love "Love today" and "Big Girls."

Also I"m a HUGE Ben Lee fan. I love running to the album Hey you Yes you the most. The new album Ripe is awesome as well.

I"m a nerd. I will dance to just about anything. However, Gangsta Rap is not my thing.

Very cool BikeGirl. I liked your post a lot. I also like how you said you can't go "potty" all by yourself. Yeah, you're in the middle of baby central. I get it. I remember DW talking in a baby voice to me on occasion by mistake. I would always respond that she should use her "big words."

bikegirl, great post. I am right there with you. Having kids around all the time is fun but sometimes smothering.

And whoever told you that your students need to come before your own kids is silly. Your heart seems big enough for all of them anyway.
