I have a quick question. Where is the frame measurement taken on a bike when one says it is 52 cm? Is it from the ground to the top tube? I have a friend who will probably be looking for a used bike, and I need to get a ballpark on her size. I'm not positive of the size on my bike, except it is a small (roughly 52 cm, I think). Thanks!

O.K. More complicated than I wanted. I do realize it isn't standardized, but I wanted to be able to get a ballpark. I guess I'll just make a few measurements on my bike and compare a bit. She is about my height (or slightly taller), but she has a shorter torso than I do (so she says!). I think our inseams are very close to the same, though, because we wear the same size and generally have to hem everything! LOL

they will generally annotate the geometry chart to say if it is center to center or center to top. In any event, the horizontal top tube measure is more important
