I noticed the other day that my rear brake pads are almost non-existant (original pair) and I thought that replacing them would be a pretty easy job for a novice. Usually if anything needs to be done on my bike I take it in to the shop, but I would like to become a little more self reliant.

It looks pretty straight forward, take old ones off, put new ones on. Are there any special tips I need to know? I looked on the Park Tools site and didn't find a link for changing brake pads.

Thanks in advance,
Don't install the new pad so that it rubs on the tire. It will rub through your sidewall! Experience talking here!

I think there is some general info on the Park site: http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=21

It is pretty easy.

With the shimano pads, you remove the tiny allen screw on the back of the pad and slide the pad out of the holder and slide the new one in, you don't have to replace the whole assembly like the old days. Cool Stop makes nice replacement pads, also OEM Shimano work well.
