I ran 5 miles this morning. 47* not much traffic, and I'm psyched cause my weekly mileage goes up again this week and again next week. I think I do my first 6 miler next Sat. Woo hoo!!! I followed up my run with a full body weight workout. I have given my DH advanced notice that I'll be hitting 200miles on my shoes so we'll need to invest in another pair so that I can break in a new pair before my 10K.

Way to go Chosha! I can't wait until I officially wear out a pair of shoes running. I just finished up my week 2 long run today...though it really wasn't long since it was the same 3 mile distance I did all last week. But it still felt good today and the 3 mile distance just keeps getting faster and easier. I can't wait until my 5k next week to see how running more during the week makes a difference.

I just did wk3d1. Looks like this week will be the same as last week. Good thing I have a race thrown in there to mix things up a bit. The last two runs I have been lazy and waited way too late to get out the door. It was nearly 80 today when I ran and that is way too hot. I am just amazed how much easier three miles is each time I run it. I really can't wait to see the effect it will have on my race saturday.

Great job to both of you on your runs!

I'm getting up there in mileage on my shoes too and am going to need a new pair soon; breaking them in before my race would probably be a good idea too...

I did my long run today, 4 miles, and also followed it up with a full body weight workout since I was a day behind on my training schedule, just couldn't get myself moving yesterday. I was starting to get worried about my 10k because my last few runs on the treadmill have all been so not fun and hard to get through. Fortunately the weather smiled on me today and was in the low 40s and perfect to run in. Unfortunately snow is back on the forecast tomorrow. Being outside today really made a difference though, not only was the 4 miles the easiest 4 miles I've run so far, but I was really enjoying myself and was at least a minute per mile faster than I have been on the treadmill, and that was without an mp3 player or anything, just me and the road. Yay! I'm feeling good again about the race.

I can't believe it's 80 where you are Birdie, I barely ran in 80 degree weather even dead in the middle of last summer!

I ran 2.5m with 5 hills today. I really wasn't feeling the run. I felt kind of weird. I don't know if it was the humidity or all the junk I had eaten all weekend. I finished it though. I'm hoping my 4miler on Wed will be nice and easy.

Birdie - Nice job on your long run yesterday. I KWYM about the 3m distance getting easier each time you run it. It's the weirdest thing, but you definitely see an improvement as you continue running. I remember thinking how hard a 3 mile run was. Now I don't mind the three milers at all. Keep pluggin' away and you'll be wearing out those shoes soon enough. You've got a 5K Saturday. You do know a RR is mandatory. 87* was the high for here today. I got out the door at 4:30am so it was only 57 when i ran this morning, but definitely warmer that what I've been used to over the last few months.

Intensebeet - Nice job on the 4m long run today! I bagged my weight workout today too. I will have to pick it up in the morning. I don't have a TM. Wish I did though. Nice job on your pace improvement too!

Don't forget to hydrate well. Sometimes that's what causes an off run, too.

Way to go on your longer runs, folks!

To catch up for me:

Saturday: 7 mile run. I was cramping up the last 1/2 mile, probably due to a combination of not enough hydration the days before and donating platelets on Friday. I'm going to have to change my donation schedule so I'm not donating the day before my long run. I remember this from last time.

Monday: 5 miles (which turned out to be 4.7 because of unlikely looking characters on my route, so I modified it). It was easier than last Thursday, though. No running buddy to keep me going is a pain. I am really looking forward to his return.

Today is a rest day, and tomorrow might have to be one, too, with a chance of 18" of snow between this morning and Wednesday night. I'll let you know if I'm able to get out there, though.

Man am I the only one not getting new shoes? I shouldn't complain though I got new ones in Jan. I had a broken foot and had to sit out Dec and Jan so to celebrate running again dh got me some new shoes. I still have yet to officially wear out a pair from running though...I actually have it as a goal on my list for the year...cause I am a nerd.

Try to stay warm intensebeet and gingerbread in the snow. Hopefully you can still get out and run cause the treadmill is no fun.

Way to go chosha on pushing through a bad run. I had one last week that I almost quit on but doesn't it give you such a feeling of accomplishment when you go ahead and finish even though it stinks?

You all had such nice long runs so far this week...I can't wait to get to the further distances in the next few weeks.

Oh, and can I just mention that I got what must be the ugliest race shirt EVER today while signing up for my 3 race series...lol.

At least you got a shirt! All the races I'm looking at for this summer you have to pay the entry fee and then an extra fee if you want a shirt. I haven't done enough races to know if that's normal or not, but I thought shirts were usually included for at least the first so many participants. I did 2.5 miles last night and am in a conundrum as to what to do tonight. Due to work obligations I couldn't get in my workout on Tuesday which was supposed to be the 2.5 run. I did it yesterday even though yesterday was supposed to be a cross training day since I figured the runs are the most important things to make sure I get in. So now I'm not sure if I should continue today and do yesterdays crosstraing, do today's scheduled workout of 2miles & weights, or put both together and do all of it (sounds like a lot). Friday is the only rest day on the plan I'm following so if I do yesterday's cross training today, should I do todays 2 miles tomorrow and give up my rest day (since Tuesday was essentially a rest day anyway.

I think too much. Any advice? The only other training plan I've followed was the C25k and there were plenty of rest days built into that so it didn't really matter if I missed a day, I could always make it up.

GB - Nice job getting those runs completed! How'd the rest of the week go for you?

Birdie - Don't worry about the distances they will come. My mileage was waaaaay down for Nov and Dec (not that it was spectacular before), because I was having knee pain. I rested it for a while and ran when I could. I thought I would never get out of running 3.1 miles. When my doc told me I had runner's knee, I tell ya, it was the best news EVAH!!! I quickly took a look at the 10K plan and kept looking forward to week 3 and 4 when the distances would begin to increase. Just keep looking ahead and get the current week's mileage done. You'll be running those farther distances before you know it. LOL about the shirt!

Intensebeet - Nice job on the 2.5! I never run on Friday if I can help it. It's the day before my long run and I need the break. I usually lift weights (full body) on the day I run. I would run in the morning before work and lift weights after work which usually gives the muscles 24hrs to recover before another run and weight workout. The only time this isn't perfect is Wed/Thur. I have a Wed morning run and eve workout. Thurs morning I run as well. Usually I skip the Wed night leg workout since I run Thurs. morning. I absolutely do nothing the day before my LSD. It's my personal rule FWIW and it works best for my body.

I did weights Monday night. Wed I did a very easy 4 miles in 32*. It was a nice run. Today I ran 4 in 62* w/very high winds. I had to work at running DOWNhill. That's a first for me. At times it felt like I wasn't running at all. That's how forceful the wind was. It's done. The legs felt great and cardio was good. This finishes my WK7. Woo Hoo!

I don't know yet! I didn't run Tuesday (poker night) and yesterday I wasn't inclined to run through the snow on the ground and falling through the air. That worked out well though, because I was able to help my sweetie clear the snow off the driveway when I got home.

Maybe I'll get out there today but it's only 10*F and I don't think it's going to get any warmer...

Woo Hoo! I got a PR today in my 5k race. I better my time two weeks ago by one minute. I just knew those 3 mile runs would help me out. Next saturday is my 4 mile race. I am getting really worried about that though. I missed a run this week so hopefully I will still be ok. Starting wk 4 on Monday morning. Have a great weekend everyone.

WTG Birdie!!! You need to come visit the Running Mom's and Dad's thread. You wouldn't believe the kind of support you get here at KR's in the different forums. Missing one run won't mess you up. You'll be okay for next week's race. I'm so proud of you! Woooo Hoooo!!!!

Birdie, that's awesome! You'll be fine for your 4 miles, don't worry about one missed run. I think it's more about consistent running over serveral weeks, consider it an extra rest day

I didn't get any more running in last week. Thursday was very cold, and I was sick (high temp and lung congestion) Friday through Sunday. I'm going to try to run this afternoon, but I might not be able to with whatever is messing with my lungs. I think I might benefit from a run though, at this point.
