<p>I never criticized the former Rev. Jerry Falwell for his positions on sexual matters including homosexuality as he walked how he preached.  I did not criticize President Clinton in the Lewinski affair as he did not criticize people's various sexual activities - I figured Lewinski was a matter between Hillary and him.  However, people like Jimmy Swaggert, Newt Gingrich and now Bishop Eddie Long of the 25,000 member New Birth Baptist megachurch here in Atlanta open themselves up for fair judgment when they preach one thing and then do quite  the same thing(s) they preach against.</p>

<p>Now, if the charges turn out to be true, I'm not sure what these three are wanting a trial for since they do not allege any sexual acts happened prior to the age of 16, which is the age of consent in Georgia.  And of course, the three do not have exactly high moral characters so there is the possibility they are not telling the truth either.</p>

<p>Thus, this story could go either way.</p>

<p>At this juncture I'm willing to accept Bishop Long's statement(s) the charges are false as I have not seen any evidence they are true other than the statements by the three individuals.  None of them are alleging criminal activity which requires a higher burden of proof.  And it is possible they are simply trying to shake down the Bishop and Church for money via a settlement.</p>

<p>On the other hand the Bishop is not doing himself any favors having his attorney do all the speaking for him.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>He says he will address the charges before his congregation Sunday morning.  Since they took down the website of the church I wonder if they will broadcast his message Sunday on TV as they usually do.  Should be an interesting sermon. </p>

<p>I've got $10 that says he will say his attorney advised against addressing the charges at this time.</p>
