I was going to make cookies.. But my cabinets are not stocked for cookie making.

So a couple questions....

1. Can I use whole wheat flour instead of white?

2. I have no baking soda. Is there any way to negotiate baking powder into a recipe?

I have to go to the store, don't I?

Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to make chocolate chip cookies with *just* whole wheat flour. You need to have some white flour in there. I tried. I failed.

Looks like it would be easier to go to the store. Perhaps you have several things you can pick up at the same time. But if you want here's some substitution information:

http://www.ochef.com/364.htm

Ah, to the store. I don't keep the baking stuff on hand anymore to discourage unplanned baking of sweets... but I suppose it won't hurt to get a little bag of white flour.

what kind of cookies are you making? GP flour is decent, but if you can get cake flour, it gives your cookies a cakey texture that goes super well with some cookies.

Yeah, you'll need different flour.

And definitely don't try to make them without baking soda. That could be ugly.

Sorry..
