Greetings, all.

It's been a wonderful weekend here with the crew at Casa de Parker. While I'm bummed to leave my buds, I'll admit that I'm looking forward to retrieving my beasties. Cortez & Eugene have been quite the loveable kitties, but not the same as Pippin & Gypsi wiggles. :)

RiL - Lublubbed the photos from last night's thread. Hopefully I'll get a few more up this evening when I get settled in.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Morning all,

Need coffee!

Great racing to from everyone in GR!! And Brandy, in Des Moines?

Very sad news about Indy Driver Dan Wheldon. He was not a full time racer this year and was on TV a bunch during the coverage and he seemed like a very fun upbeat person. He was the father to two small kids. :(

Yesterday Maria asked about my friend Jennifer:

"Tim - congrats on your run & to Jennifer, she's really made a lot of progress in her running, no?"

The answer is yes, she's made huge strides with her running. I paced her in her first marathon at Mercedes two years ago and she qualified for Boston. I knew that she had A LOT of untapped potential, so back in the summer she came to me to help her with her training plan(s) because she didn't like what she was getting from her current coach. Her goal for this fall is a sub 44 10K and I know that she's going to crush it.

Here's a pic from the race

Sounds like a good time was had in GR this weekend! Nice pics last night. As always, we've got a good-looking crew...

My official time from the 5k yesterday was 22:04. More than a minute off a PR, but it's actually better than I expected to do, considering how I've been running lately. I was 21st overall (out of 168) and 2nd in M40-44 (out of 17). I don't know why the M40-44 crowd was so slow, but I'll take it. Actually, the guy that beat me in this Age Group beat me at this same race two years ago (when we were both M35-39) right at the wire. At the time, we didn't realize that it was for first place in the AG. He beat me last year too, but we were in different Age Groups then. This year he beat me by close to a minute, so no photo finish. But I've raced against him three times now, and he's beaten me all three times, twice taking first place from me. I guess I have a nemesis.

I just signed up for a Half Marathon here in North Jersey for next Saturday. A guy I work with is Race Director, so I felt like I had to help him out with his inaugural event. I haven't run more than 7 miles since the marathon in Utah a month ago, so I don't know how well this will work out. But we'll see...

Happy Monday, everybody...

I hate to go on and on, so you can just skip this post if you want. But Jennifer is so much more that just someone who trains with our group. She's a SUPER Mom, covergirl, breast cancer awareness advocate, monster fund raiser, and on and on. She's the mother of two hearing impared sons. She was pregnant when she was diagnosed.

Here's her story:

Awesome photos Tim! And how cool that your friend made the RW cover! What is the story (if you don't mind sharing).

Yeah, the Parker kittehs are pretty awesome.

It was way hard for me to get out of bed this morning. I definitely could have used about 3 more hours of sleep. And yes, I have the trademark post-marathon ouchiness going on. (UN)Fortunately it is not as bad as it would have if I had nailed that race and run at full throttle the entire time, but there is definite marked soreness. I also woke up to a wicked bad head cold, which may explain some of yesterday's falling-apart-ness. I really hope to get a race report done today so I do not put it off like I did for both Eugene and Tough Mudder this year. The short story is that I started to fall apart before mile 7, which is obviously not good when you have almost 20 miles to go! I am not upset at all about it though and have no regrets for pulling back in Chicago and taking a swing at Grand Rapids. I love that race and the course is even better this year. Definitely a race I would run again and again.

Getting DS1 ready for school and then I am off to work...

Have a great day!

Pictures from meetups are always bittersweet - love them, but wish I was there too.

Great racing this weekend with Brandy, Mindi, KP, Ailaire, kath, and boB. Hope I did not miss anyone.

No running for me this weekend, but I did get my long run in Friday (long being relative, because at this point, my long run is short enough that it would be a warmup for some of you). My right shin was a little splinty, so I decided to take it easy. I was already at the highest weekly mileage I have had since February, so all in all, can't complain. Got in a 60 minute low heart rate effort this morning.

Happy belated birthday, solar. And I am loving Missy's vacation schedule.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the pics!!! So glad to hear you all had a great weekend!

Congrats on the big PR Brandy!

Busy weekend in the NCRG household. My kitchen cabinets are in!! I was close to tears when I saw them. I never thought I would have anything this nice. The countertop guy comes on Friday - so we are almost done!

AND while the guys were working on the kitchen, my sister and I installed DDs birthday present. We got her a trampoline. The trampoline itself was easy peasy. The safety enclosure...notsomuch. But we did it. And the kids LOVED it!

Yay for new cabinets! I want pics!

I did my 20 miler yesterday. Longest run on the training schedule. It was super windy but I did well, kept the pace I wanted to keep. I was pretty tired and hungry by the time I finished. I need to find a better way to re-calorie when I'm doing long runs. I've never tried gels but I think it might be time. Today my legs feel great so that's a good sign. NYC here I come!

Yay! That rocks that you got that done! I would definitely try to experiment with gels sooner than later. I like the Powerbar ones because they have electrolytes too. But definitely give them a try once or twice before the race so you can see if your stomach will handle them well.

Happy early birthday Tim!!

Wippy - wish you still lived in Madison - we are doing our GOTR practice 5K next week and I was thinking this morning how cool it was you could come last time!

Good morning all and hellloooooo SAINT LOUIS CARDINALS are going to the WORLD SERIES!!! They really fell apart in the 2nd half of the regular season and barely squeezed in on the wild card slot but hot damn have they had a HOT post-season record.

HUGE CONGRATS to everyone racing this past weekend… Mindi, Brandy, KP, Kath (I seriously don’t know how that “y” got in my last post ), Ailarie, boB, Tim & Baggs (pacing superstar). I know some of you didn't have the races you'd trained so very hard for but you stuck it out and finished, inspiring me all the more. CONGRATS!!!

Lori - I'm soooo very proud of you and your 3 day walk accomplishment, I thought of you every time I saw a bc walker around here (they were out and about on both Sat & Sun) and every time I saw pink.

ACK! I got home about 10:50 (i like driving with the wind! heh) and our house is FREEZING. Temps here are still so up and down (and will be until Thanksgiving) that we don't usually turn it on till mid-November.

1) He wasn't on a curb. T must have been slouching, because he isn't Tonya-tall. I think she has an inch on him. Hard to say, cause they both have like a foot on me.

(Dh just asked "yah, what's up with that pic? You look REALLY short and I know Kev is not that tall." heh.

2) Thanks! Yep, that's the one I made. I'm pretty happy with it.

Ok, after 3 ours in the car (and Michigan roads suck serious ass) I need to go spend some time on the peanut*. And I think Russ is on his way over.

*ask Kevin or Tonya.

ps. the floor isn't done, but most of the prep is done. Dh is debating pulling out the toilet & sink in the half bath. Those're the last things that need to be pulled out before we start laying it down. I don't think Dh'll last long without being able to cook, so it'll probably get done this week.

2) HA! Mike is a writer (as his day job) and in his free time he writes & makes books. I'm talking MAKES books. He writes the story/poem, illustrates it, carves the illustrations from wood blocks, prints the blocks and sets type on old-fashioned presses at a place called Zygote Press, and then sews/binds the books by hand.

Anyway, because of all that, he is very aware of fonts and stuff. heh.

Dh went over to Donna's to grab the pot of soup (he started making a 2-day soup before he pulled out the stove, not thinking he wouldn't have the stove for the 2nd day, so he finished the soup on Donna [86y/o neighbor]'s stove. Anyway, now Russell is crying at my hip.
