I know we'd bandied this about a bit a while ago, but the Athens OH Marathon is 2 weeks before Boston and I was considering running it as a final long run (granted - I do not have PacerWife's permission on this one - I have to see what the rest of my marathon schedule looks like from Clif Bar). I know there was some interest in a few guys coming up with the goal of running 3:15 to qualify for Boston, which would fit pretty nicely as the pace I'd want to run. I talked to 2 of the women on our pace team and mentioned this to them and they could be interested as well (that would be 2-4 minute PR's for both of them, not to mention it would put them near the top of the field!)

So my question is who might be interested in this? The date is April 6 (Sun). I ran it a few years ago nd it's a fast course - 1 mile with a slight downhill, the rest very flat on a rails-to-trails. It is NOT spectator friendly though if you had a car or bike someone could probably get around a bit on the course. It's a wee little race - but there is also a half marathon so you have some folks to run with in addition to me.

The week before is the ORRRC Marathon which is very similar - a few miles through Xenia OH then much of the course on a rails to trails course. Fast, maybe a little bigger than Athens and also with a half marathon. I may race that half marathon and see if I can uncork a good one, but frankly if more people wanted to run a 3:15 there I would consider that as well. The comments you may see about the race last year are quite negative - the RD told me they are going back to the old course in Xenia which is good.

The race website for ORRRC is being updated now, but the Athens one is here:
http://www.athensmarathon.org/

After Philly, I'm already thinking about the next get together!

OK, I am one of those people. I need to run the 3:15 and this particular weekend appears to work well with my spring schedule. I'd like to try to run my 3:15 with a group instead of managing a solo run. Plus it would be cool to have some people to celebrate it with.

Wife knows that I plan to train for a BQ with a spring race, but we have not discussed this date and all that. I just blocked out a few days on the calendar in Feb for the guys ski trip. I need to stager my requests so that I don't overload the system and get a prematurely issued Denied Request!

Logistically, I think I could drive up there for the race and split the trip up by spending the night at my parents house on the way up. Probably have to take Monday off to drive back to Bham.

I hope Myron will jump on this too...we'll see. Could be fun.

Nettie - if you want to run an Ohio marathon, pick the Pig or Columbus. Much better races than Athens, more fun, more crowds to respond to your tutu!

Now that I know there is a HM, I could be interested in this. I haven't figured out what HM to run in the spring, and my sis may be moving down towards Athens in the next few months (30 min away vs 90+ min from Columbus). Reduced travel costs = happy Kris.

I think I'm one of the people you were talking about already PC - it's still on my radar, but I still need to talk to the family. I did some checking, it's about a 6 hour or so drive, so not too bad - and I'd get Ohio in, putting me at 5 of 50 states.

Ditto with Myron. I'll put it on the radar. How the heck do you get there? Can you fly anywhere nearby? Not sure I would do a 3:15, I would need a 3:10 if this was a BQ run. Could always start together, or something.

I'll think about it.

Tom likes to eat spleens - he's got a little Hannibal Lecter in him.

Tom - if you ran the first half with us at 3:15 pace, you could turn around and run the second half in about 1:20. This is not a challenging course!
