Good News:<br><br>
It's the ATF, seems like a cool gig, who doesn't want to play with alcohol, tobacco and firearms.<br><br>
Bad News:<br><br>
I'd lose another year of promotion because the job was announced at my pay grade from two years ago and I would have to return to that level for a year, SO I would stay at my current salary instead of receiving this year's raise.<br><br>
It's a two year training commitment, if I suck, then they have the option to not convert me to a 'real' Fed. I'm currently a 'real' Fed.<br><br>
No outside the U.S. travel, at least not for a long, long time.<br><br>
No SoCal gigs available, here are my options:<br><br>
Yuma, Arizona<br>
McAllen, Texas<br>
Los Cruces, New Mexico<br>
Tuscon, Arizona<br>
Sioux Falls, South Dakota<br>
St. Paul, Minnesota<br><br>
I have to let them know my decision by Wed.<br><br>

My sense is that you're pretty happy where you are and you get the cool travelling opportunity. I'd stay put.

You would be the FNG. FNG's get sent to cities like the ones you listed.<br><br>
If you see yourself at the ATF in 30 years or you can use this as a lateral move into something you really want to do down the road, go for it.<br><br>
If not, stick with what you have for the time being.

I guess the other question is whether or not the ATF position would give you some new skill sets that would make you more marketable in the future (be it fed or the real world).
