Even as a teenager being raised in the Southern Baptist Church for some reason I've always been fairly liberal in my views whether on the Bible, politics or education. At times I can be a little more fiscally conservative which to some extent I am now but social liberalism has always been important to me and my way of thinking. So, although I've had some Republicans I supported (Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon) the vast majority of time I'm solidly in the Democrat Party pockets.

That being said there are many times I find myself debating some items put forth by the Democratic Party (Unions, Crime and Punishment, how far do we go with welfare for example), but overall I'm as staunchly Democrat today as I have been the last three decades.

As I tell my nephews and nieces, I'm happy with whomever they marry regardless of race, religion, creed, ethnicity, handicap status, same or opposite sex, and I'll be glad to come to the wedding and wish them well. However, if they marry a Tea Party Republican or UGAy person, forget it.

I don't find the Democratic Party has changed a lot since the 70's but it does seem to me the Republican Party is becoming more and more radically conservative.
