((Happyfeat's calf))

Mike, you were right about the kryptonite. Ran 6.4 miles last night and my hip/groin were killing me to the point I was going to have dw call the vet this morning for an appt. Took an Aleve and went to bed. Ran 8.1 moh this morning and barely felt the hip and now feels pretty good. Not sure what's happening but am encouraged this morning.

Sorry 'bout the car Mike. In my earlier days that would have made me insane as cars were pretty important to me. Johnny I drive a truck too and the dw drives an xterra. Both several years old but without scratch or dent. I hate driving dinged up cars.

Heat index with hit triple digits today and the first day in forever no wind.

dw is taking group masters swimming lessons at a local pool since she is injured. (see the vet tomorrow) The coach is an ex olympic swimmer. Paul something or other.

Good morning all,

Glad your run went well and you are on the mend today, KS.

My "blue spot" is fainter today and that's a relief; but my IT band on the other leg is complaining loudly this morning since I ran off kilter last night. I'm not sure what the problem is, but overall in the last few days everything from my head to toes has had issues of pain and discomfort. I'm seriously thinking of skipping my 8M tonight and doing yoga instead to try and get back in alignment. I've been lax about finding time for that lately - probably my answer right there.

I know I should reply to other poster's posts, but I've got to get ready for work. TTYL. Hope everyone has a good day.

The vet, KS????? Glad your hip is feeling better!

HappyFeat, I think your idea of taking a day for yoga is a good one. Every time I get an ouchie somewhere, there are all kinds of reprecussions to other body parts, even when I'm not obviously favouring something. Like now.... my glute was sore this morning for a bit, on the same side as the calf issue. BTW.. if you haven't tried compressions socks, I'll second Johnny's comment earlier in the week...... the support they give is very helpful.

Happy National Running Day! At least, that's what it says on Facebook.

I did about 2.25 with a few walk breaks in my Branca barefoot sandals. Just love these things! Calves are slowly coming around to loving them as well. Right knee continues to offer no complaints about anything but going downstairs, and that is only a soft clunk without pain. The articulating surface of my patella is apparently akin to, oh, roads in Houston. But I'm not going in to fix that if it's not hurting!

Took the dog with me, but probably won't anymore. She's only 6, but can't keep up with me anymore unless there is a cat in front of us. She'll cry to go the next time I head out, though. Oh, well, will have to walk her more to make up for no more runs.

Here is a sideways shot of the Brancas.

I think someone asked if the straps bothered me, and I never answered back on that. No, nothing is bothering me at all with them yet. The heel strap is a thin stretchy rubber, very comfortable. Will be interesting to see what happens when I'm doing 3 miles 3 times a week, and then starting to build the long runs again.

Nice thing is that I NEVER get out of breath at all now, after all that marathon training last year. Apparently I didn't lose all the benefit after my long break. My calves/quads get tired before the rest of me, so I walk to rest them. t

Not using a watch these days. Battery died, and I just haven't got around to getting a new one. Might do that today.

WTG TW!!! Nice to hear that the pool running is doing such good stuff for you! I still haven't done it myself - would probably be great for my calves, along with compression socks. I provide aquatic therapy at least once a week, so I do get some time in the water, which is sorta like standing in a big compression sock!

Good run, ks! It's such a blessing to have less pain after a worrisome run!

Mike, I have dented a car or 2 accidentally and I ALWAYS left a note. One person got in touch with me and told me not to worry about it. I was obviously not the first dent in that car, but hey, I let her know about the new one. My own has too many hail dings to worry about the one my son put in it a couple days ago when he opened his brother's truck door too hard. Hope they get a stomach ache from the guilt, or at least lots of bad dreams.

Nope, not me....I'm in the "Waiting for next injury" mode, of course, if you'd of asked me this question 3 weeks ago I'd of said "Yes, I'm injured too"

bummer Ks....hope that heals up quickly for you. But since you mentioned the "VET" twice in your post, allow me to suggest DMSO. (topical horse medicine). It's available at the feed store or grange for super cheap. Roll it on the achy part (I'd keep it away from even close to the "groin" area though). Works for me, I'm serious. I only use it for a couple of days in a row, as it absorbs into the body and gives off a bit of a stink. Worse than patchooli.

Hey, a couple of Laura drop bys in the past week. Once again. Nice feet. Do I sound like I have a fetish. No, not really, just complimentin some nice feet.

My dog had to quit running with me when he was around 6 or 7 too. Took him on some walks to make up for it. Seemed to work.

6.3 miles in the woods in celebration of National Running Day. We're still having crummy weather here. It's been in the 50's here, a good 20-25° below normal for this time of year, plus it's still raining. What will eventually happen is it will go right from 50° to 90° in a day or two.

KS - glad to hear you had a better run today. Just keep attuned to the ol' bod as I know you will.

HF - consider a deep tissue massage to go along with that yoga.

Laura - keep sending those pics!

Yeah, cars... I really try to not to let my possessions "own" me, you know? Studid thing can get fixed with some sanding and paint. Meanwhile I'm alive and the family's doing well.

Ran 5 in a progression run today, feeling less worn out from the race. My plan is to take a rest from running tomorrow, hit the gym, and then do an MLR on Friday. I have about a month to decide if I have the desire to train for a Fall marathon. I may just start the program without a public/conscious declaration. Sorta like Palin.

Hey folks. Just a quick pop-in to say happy National Running Day... and to report that I participated! 3.1 miles, literally my "recovery" run, first time back post-op. Slow as molasses but just as smooth. I'll take it. :)

Thanks, that's a brilliant idea! I'll try to get in tomorrow or Friday.

Johnny - found the DMSO sold for large animals idea funny, no idea why - a smell more offensive than patchouli - that's saying something!

Glad you found a solution, Laura!

A post-op run for OM!!! My, you are healing fast!!

Thanks for the reminder, Mike. I should probably book a massage for when I get back from vacation.

Well, the PT is non-commital, as usual, but agrees this seems minor. Definitely in the soleus, no tendon involvement. None of the stretches he did on me hurt. We did some ultrasound, massage and TENS, and will be back on Friday for more of the same. Will take it from there.

Spent 15 min on the bike, then did my hip/hamstring/ab work as usual.

I can't call myself injured since I did run a pain free 5 miles this evening. I can still feel a little soreness in my foot at times during the day and my right calf probably couldn't do a hard race right now so I will xtrain and run every so often.

The last race my necktie buddy ran they messed up his name and called him Dan Disco instead of Disco Dan. Those people with two first names probably have this trouble all the time.

I think he is going to start calling himself Danny Disco from now on to avoid all the confusion. He told me he is planning on running a few races in the near future.
