Training run

Results:1:58:12
9:02 m/m pace
Half marathon PW (personnel worst)

The Details:

Awoke at 5:00 A.M. and it was warm and sticky, 75 degrees and 75% humidity, yuck. The plan was to get 5 miles prior to the race and then run the race at a very conservative pace (9’ish).

Arrived at the course and did 5 miles on one of the out and backs. It was warm and sticky. Not good conditions for this penguin. I was glad this was to be a training run. Twenty minutes before the start of the race we had a little lightning and a quick downpour. When the rain stopped it was even more humid. Someone joked that it was about 115%.

I ran easy and walked through the aid stations and even walked up a couple of the small hills. I caught up to a buddy around mile 5 and as he stated that he was dying. The sun had come out and was heating things up and turning the place into a sauna as the heat cooked the water off the road.

The rest of the race was pretty uneventful as I continued on my liesurely jaunt, chatted with anyone who felt like talking, ambled through the aid stations, and stopped to stretch a couple of times. I crossed the line at 1:58:12. I set a half marathon PW!!!! Woohoo!!
