FB- nice job on the early 5

RA- get that run in today. I've seen you post about your BOB before, how do you like it? I mean, are they really that much better than the other 'cheaper' ones? Also, what about the front wheel? Swivel or stationary?

Well, I survived the Dr. yesterday. Strep test was negative, and they said it didn't look like what I had last year, yet. Maybe just a bad sinus infection. Now I'm taking a Z-pack (antibios), Claritin, and flonase. They also gave me a sinus cocktail shot. I think I'm feeling a little better, but maybe its all the drugs

I got out for a lack-luster 3 yesterday. Today I am going to try for 5x 1ks again, this time indoors (away from all that stupid pollen) on the TM and with 1 minute recoveries. I hope I can hang on, may have to bail since I have been dealing with all this crap, but my body actually feels good... so we'll see

oh yea, gotta go in early tonight! (which totally screwed up my group run plans tonight)

Good morning everyone. I am going to get out in a bit for some hill repeats. It rained hard last night and could be snowing a bit again. I think all the snow may finally be winding down. I am crossing my fingers. Now with all the rain and snow we have had this winter and spring they are worried about flooding from the mountain snow runoff. There is still more snow in the mountains than 2 months ago, so we shall see.

Okay, now THAT was stupid! I've felt a little "off" all week--nagging sore throat, bit of a cough. This morning I woke with a chest cold. So what do I do?! Went for a run. Oh, and not just any run. Hill repeats. I dropped son1 off and gee, ya know, that's not far from the MIT hill. Yah, hill repeats sound good. The hill is a short mile--short steep, flat recovery, long gradual. I've done up to six. Today, I dragged my carcass through two. Good news is, although my time sucked, it was better than I was doing just a couple years ago. 4mi total.

Son1 and I are registered for a 12hr bike race in a couple weeks. No, I don't know what the heck I was thinking. Son1 wants to race it. Okay, that's fine. There's tour option that I was going to do. THen I looked at previous years results. Aw crap... So, I'll be racing it, too. Someone PLEASE smack the stupid out of me!!!

FB--sorry to hear about your Grandma.

Asics--enjoy whatever you get in today.

BBS--uh, if'n you are sick, think maybe you should take a day or two off? Not that I would follow my own advice or anything...

fuller--SNOW?! Ya gotta be kidding!

Morning all,

Busy as usual at work. But there WILL BE NO missed run today. Come hell or high water. I'll do the mile repeats planned for yesterday.

Nice day today and tomorrow looks good but beyond that it looks like I'll doing some workout shuffling. I had been planning on a long trail adventure Saturday, a real doozy at that...I was going to drive about an hour west of here, hit some trails off of the Skyline Drive and take advantage of National Parks Week (free admission, check it out at NPS.gov) in the process. I figured on at least a 2-hour trail run on some very technical terrain, and that would be good prep for North Face in June. But now it seems we're going to get thunderstorms and heavy rains on Saturday. So there goes that idea, most likely. That means I'll probably be turning tomorrow's planned 7 into 13, then getting in whatever I can manage on Saturday, much closer to home. Mega trail run will have to wait until another weekend. Oh well.

FB - way to get out there for the early 5+

RA - have a good 5er later

BBS - hope you can get that run in and put some of those symptoms behind you

kevin - good luck on the hill repeats. You sure have had some crazy weather this "spring."

4BM - I've been that stupid too, probably will be again. It's what we do. Don't sweat it.

Jill - got your bags packed for Beantown yet? Hope you're not procrastinating anymore. Seriously though you're going to have a blast. Nothing like Boston, you will see.

Kevin- Good luck with those hills

Mom- yea, mom knows best right? I just have my 'A' race next saturday and I wanted to get at least one more speed session in.

I did it. All told, 6 miles with cooldown and warm up. Wasn't too bad. I was a little faster (4:00 1Ks) than last week since I was on the TM, but I made my recoveries a tad slower. I could tell I was a little drained from being under the weather, but I'm happy I made it through the workout. Race next weekend... chasin that PR. I probably wont do another 5K till August, so I'm hoping all goes well.

Nice run FB.

Hope you get that 5 in Asics.

Do what you need to to get better BBS.

Hill repeats- sounds good Kevin. Snow in mid April - not so much.

Don't call that stupid at all 4BM. I always feel better when I'm sick if I go for a run.

Nail those repeats today Hawk.

I was wondering if we had anyone doing Boston this year. Sounds like Jill is- anyone else? I'm not seeing any trash talking, so I can only assume that Chances isn't there this year.

Decent 10 miler for me today. Overall energy level down because I've been restricting my calories, but I made it through ok.

We have the Sport Utility BOB. It has knobbly tires and a fixed front wheel. I'd wanted the Ironman, with skinny tires, as that is lighter but it went over my budget. Anyway, I like it and find it easy to run with. DW initially found it hard to turn while running, probably because she's a lot shorter than me. The suspension is good and there's a reasonable sized basket underneath. It folds OK, once you get the knack of it, but I have to take off the wheels to fit it in the trunk of my car.

My SIL has the BOB Revolution, which is very popular and easier to use outside of running, i.e. it's more flexible and shorter due to the rotating front wheel. She loves it and my opinion is that the swivel wheel design is probably a better bet if you intend the stroller for multiple uses; however it costs more, well at least the BOB version does.

I have no idea how BOB compares to cheaper brands. Probably like comparing an Audi to a Kia. Nothing wrong with either. They have the same features but something is not quite the same.

I had the whole range of weather this morning. A bit of rain, then sunshine towards the end of the hill repeats. Then if that was not enough. Snow coming down as I was finishing my cooldown that looked like a blizzard for about 10 minutes. As they said on the news yesterday, winter just does not want to let go around here. If you are a skier, then this would be your paradise.

Now on to the run this morning. It was actually rather enjoyable. Looking at earlier in the year when I did this workout, I am seeing quite a bit of improvement. 8 X 60 sec. hill repeats with 3-3 1/2 minutes rest between.

6:58 pace, 6:49; 6:51; 6:58; 6:49; 6:47; 6:38; 6:55

Overall it was a good run.

Hello FB! Good to see you. Nice job on that run.

BBS, rest up, I hope the meds help.

4bm, ack! I skipped my run yesterday b/c DH and DD2 have sore throats, I thought one might be coming on so I mega dosed with echinecea. It worked. Mile repeats ...

Kevin, well done on those hill repeats.

Well, Hawk, I think you should still go out and run those trails. Suck it up. Oh, and actually ... I just started packing today, the procrastinator that I am.

MBH, great job on that 10 miler. Yep, I'm running and loopy is too. I guess I'm not worthy of the trash talk ...

About 55 minutes of running for me this afteroon in 70 degrees. Yuck. I hope we get overcast and cool on Monday! There's still a chance ...

Hi everyone. My lunch time run got cancelled because I was called into court at the last minute. So now I have to squeeze in at least a mile before heading to a charity function tonight.

Have a good day, everybody.

Mile repeats done. Took #1 out a little slower to ease into things. Big tailwind on #2, which of course meant a wicked headwind on #4 when I was heading the opposite way. All of which explains the splits - 6:37, 6:19, 6:25, 6:39. Hopefully I can take from this that #3 was "just right." A little over 7 miles, all told.

Jill - I hear you on the trail run. But the footing on these particular trails is quite technical even in dry conditions. Adding a little rain and mud to the equation is probably a little more than I'm ready for at this point. I still have Broad Street Run in the sights, would hate to get a silly injury. Have a good flight, we'll be stalk...<cough> I mean, tracking you closely on Monday.

Oh and BTW our old prodigal speedster chick Tonya is running Boston and she's actually figured out how to train properly and not keep getting herself injured this time around. I have a feeling she's going to have a monster day.

Got a couple of things to do here then I'm back to the ballpark. Phillies playing one more game in their "other" home park in DC.

3.55, some walking breaks, dreadmill. Not thrilled with continuing ischemic stuff, but I wasn't in danger of fainting or anything. MD will probably tell me to dial things back, but resting heart rate is still great (52) my age!

Ran on the treadmill for pace control this morning and did 7 miles at 9 minute pace. As for track last night, I was a little too hyped the first mile and had to slow down the last lap to get to 7:30 the first mile. Son1 was a bit behind around 7:53. The next couple of miles I was just about 8 and he was 8:15 and 8:07. Hopefully I'll be a better pacer next week. I found out there is a 10k in the Arboretum on Saturday, which is cool as I was going to do 12 and now I'll sandwich the 10k in there with 3 before and after.

Nice runs, all and hope everyone gets the cure for whatever ails 'em.
