great article:
http://www.topendsports.com/medicine/cramping.htm

this is the stretch I had to do with physical therapy (knees bent)

the part of what to do with a cramp onset, sits home with me, as some of you know that I swore that I tore my calf when I hyperextended my leg during a cramp while I was sleeping. I think it was Hippo that explained that you need to massage your cramps out. I still get calf cramps and it's really hard not to hyperstretch my leg as a first reaction, but the article is really good at explaining why you really shouldn't. My cramps have become fewer with Magnesium supplements.

Sue, this is a great article!
I'm thinking it would be great to merge this into the Valuable Information sticky thread at the top of this forum. If you agree, let me know and I'll do that.

Cool! Thanks, Sue. I always use those two stretches, but have never tried pushing the muscle to finish the contraction like that. Sounds painful, and I'm a-skeered of it, but I'll try to remember that for the next time it happens. I might cry...

Diablita, I think you're right!
