I'm looking at this now.

I see the cap is 1250 entrants. Does anyone think it will fill? Would the Chicago experience cause a surge here?

I want to run here, but would also like to wait to register day before race.

I dunno. I just got one woman who didn't complete Chicago to register for it this morning. But, I also know a few others that didn't get to finish who are headed to Ohio on the 21st for that marathon and that marathon is also giving a discount to Chicago participants...

So, because of the proximity of dates and the special offer and the fact that many people don't really know about the smaller marathons, maybe you'll be okay, but with less than 20 days out, I personally wouldn't risk it.
This is on the GRM website today:

The Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon is expecting to hit our registration cap sometime in the next week. We have a capacity of 1250 Full Marathon, 850 Half-marathon, and 250 Teams.

Current registrations are coming in at a very fast pace, many citing the Chicago Marathon having been cut short by unfortunate weather conditions on Sunday. Runners are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.

The Detroit marathon is on the 21st too, so maybe some of the Chicago participants will head there.
I'm registered for the half.

This should be interesting.

With the marathon cap now increased by 400 to 1,650 and the HM with 800(?), I wonder if the course can accomodate the traffic. I see the course profile and there are several 180 degree turn arounds.

Anyone have first-hand experience with the race course? Thoughts on traffic/congestion impeding the race?
