Narrowed down choices. You can only vote once, BUT you can vote for more than one name.

I really like "The Trailhead". The only issue is that some ultras (Comrades, for example) aren't on trail.

I really like "Extreme Running". It's a fun name, it captures all the "I got bloody/I ran next to a cliff/they sent out search and rescue when she got lost" stuff I read. And it covers both non-trail ultras and stuff like what I do - 4 marathons in a weekend.

Then again, I'm happy to put my stuff elsewhere , and there aren't tons of pavement ultras.

So. Huh.

You could call it "Head Cheese" and I'll still check it out. Though if you do call it Head Cheese, you probably won't attract lots of new readers. So, pass on that. But no matter what you call it, I'll be alright with it.

the only non-trail ultras i can think of are on tracks and Old Dominion Memorial which is roads, and there is another 100 miler, but i think it is defunct now.

I know, there aren't a ton in the US.

There are two popular ultras in Hawai'i (a 50k to the volcano and "Run to the Sun", which is a very big deal there) that are on roads.

Comrades, of course.

But I totally agree, there aren't that many. Which is why I'd be fine with a name that evokes a trail thingie.

Perhaps the defuct 100 mile you refer to is Olander Park 24 hour. What about these road runs:

- Badwater
- Self-trancendance 6 and 10 days
- Vol State - 310 miles on road, across the state of TN

Any of the various, albeit few, 12 or 24 hour runs: Presque Isle 12 hour, San Francisco One Day, Lake Merritt 12 hour, Ultracentric 24 hour, etc. I believe San Diego has a loop 24 hour too.

Not sure how many potential Kickrunners these races would appeal to, but there are indeed road ultras out there.

And I agree that what srlopez does is extreme. In a good way.

Here in Europe, there is a tradition of Road Ultras - The World Famous - London to Brighton Road Race comes to mind - Then there are the 24 hour Track races, the Enduro Type 100M Road Races (Usually held on airfields for some reason!), and lets not forget the Really Famous Comrades Marathon in South Africa (53 miles I seem to recall...)... Hence I voted for Extreme - But I won't be running any - yet

We have a few road ultras in my neck of the woods (Canandaigua 50's, BPAC 12 hr, the 3,100 mile Self Transcendance Race in NYC). I checked an ultra calendar quickly and though not as many in number as their trail counterparts there are several 50K and 50 mile runs out there. Even a few 100's (theres some 118 mile thing down south).

Definitely Extreme.

I'm with SRL. The Mt. Spokane 34 mile ultra is 20 flat roadway miles to the 14 mile paved road climbing to the ski area at the top and, since I only made it to mile 30 this year, I'll vote for "extreme" which I liked instantaneously when I first opened Kickrunners. (now if I can just figure out how to vote on the poll). Oh, that was easy.

Just a little reminder that while Kickrunners are predominantly North American based, there are a number of us elsewhere, like Ireland, and Australia, not to mention the UK, and maybe even South Africa, where Road Ultras are more common.

Given that we are in a tie situation, hence an impasse, I would like to cry out not to go down a road which may mean that future users who are road warriors are excluded, or feel excluded, from the Beyond Marathon type of running that running trails and road ultras brings - hence my continued support for Extreme - which could also bring in the Adventure Type Events participants in the future.

Just my two cents worth
