....from a slightly slower perspective

Flounder: were you really less than a minute in front of me at the 10k?? I really "did" have a miserable 2nd half.

anyway- my race didn't feel good from the get-go. I was happy when they called out the mile split and found it to be 6:05. I thought that maybe I was wrong about the way I felt. Then I got to mile 2 and they said "13:40". I was getting a bad feeling when I found myself with a group of 4 other guys that were "jabberjawing" and I was the quiet one. (I have a jabberjaw tendency in early miles). When I was the only one not contributing my name and stats, someone questioned why and I said "I'm already trying to concentrate". Had I been having a good day, I really could have had a good day, these guys were trying to push me along

I hit the 10k at 39:19 which wasn't too bad except that I felt like my breathing was already labored, but I kept telling myself that I'd pick it up at 10 miles as my splits were 6:30, but when 10 miles came around, I found myself looking behind me, asking the volunteers to yell loud when the next woman comes by (NOT a good sign).

Anyway, I finished a not very pretty 1:24:48. I was good enough for first female, so there IS that. And I received a gift basket full of enough coffeee to supply me for a year!

The awards were kind of sketchy and I have to do some follow-up and supposedly the first male/female to reach 10k mark were suppose to get a Trek bike. if that comes through. if the rumor is true-- that the 4th place female left the awards early with it.

And a typical Sue move...............I couldn't find my car when I left. Had I left a few minutes earlier, I could have followed Flounder and he could have carried my basket. Instead, here's me carry my basket and saying to myself "dude, where's my car" In the end, the young lady that finished behind me in the race, gave me a ride to my car, it was on the "other" side of where I was looking. I'm such a dork.

Sorry - Sue - I went up to see if they could find my award and turned around and everyone was gone. I should have been the gentelman that I was not, but wish I was and carried that big thing for you.

I personally think you should ditch your coach for having you run that workout on Thursday - Toooo close to the race. I still think that one bad race is not a indicator of fitness level. In 3 weeks is the Wausau 1/2 marathon - I am familiar with the course and I think it is a flat - Out and back - not as many turns as Oshkosh, but it is the same weekend as Sole Burner - I do not think I will do either -

Sue, you're awesome....a bad day and you still get first place! I know how tough you are on yourself, but you're still my hero!

Congrats, fox-runr!

And how cool to get your's and Flounder's racing perspective. I don't speak for everybody, but I'm willing to say that everyone know's the "going out too fast," feeling.

However, not everyone knows of that feeling and of being in the lead of a big race.

Very fun for me watching the VRAA and to see results.

Thanks for sharing the view. Recover well.

You don't have the best of a day, and you still win?

Wow, I know a lot of folks who would love to have an off day like that!

Seriously, great job!
