Speaking of still being at work, it seems pretty clear I won't be going out for a morning run. HOWEVER, I will run tonight. I am super bummed though b/c I wanted to get out of work at 1 tomorrow to see my kids sailing. That is not looking too likely. I may not have respite for a while.

I am happy I am busy, but I really really wanted to check them out sailing. [email protected].

Why sure it did.

Yes, THIS IS FRIDAY'S RUNNING THREAD.

right?

I think.

I'm checking in from the Left Coast - I'm in cloudy and misty San Diego and have been for the week. Not much time for running - just 6ish miles on Wednesday AM (after a 20 hour work/travel day on Tuesday) - my first miles in 7 days. That long of a day = major fuckingsuckitude. This is my first night in the city - 2 other nights north in the middle of Nowhere, CA, and now SD is like nerd-central.....it's COMIC-CON (comic convention)! So there are tons of Vulcans, Storm Troopers, Marvel Heros, etc parading around the streets at any given time now. You wouldn't believe it if I had a camera. Literally thousands of them. So after being stuck in 3 hours of traffic, re-routed in SD, delayed getting to my hotel b/c of gaggles of nerds crossing the street I was ready to pop....and then I didn't have time to get a run in so I went and had a few beers w/my project contacts at the Tilted Kilt (?). A definite mood enhancer (not so much the beer but the ( )( ) scenery).

(more on the hooters side of things not a nudie shop)

I'm hoping to drag my ars out of bed in the AM tomorrow and grab 5 +/- miles before my flight home - I'm figuring I can sleep on the plane. I guess I better go to bed.

Cheers

I woke up this morning and briefly contemplated doing my run in the neighborhood before work. Until I heard the radio guys say that it was 77 degrees and "thick" already. At 6 am. So I have my bag packed to run after work at the indoor track at the campus rec center. I have my WWVD band on and my Voo shirt to wear for the run, as a way to ensure that I actually do it no matter how tired or grumpy I am after work.

Morning All-

I know we are all kinda thinkin' about someone in the next few days, so (((((((((30's))))))))).

My running schedule will be all weird this weekend, but looks like 8 today, notta-much if anything tomorrow (2 or 3?) and then the 20 for Voo Sunday morning.

I'm VERY tired this AM...have not been sleeping well. I need a nap already at 7 AM.

Dan--funny about the Comic-con. We had that here recently. Easy now with the nerd thing...I actually went and there are some terrific artists and writers there! I went because someone I love was super into it. :) Still. I was a little uncomfy--now I know how he feels around runners. :) And no, I didn't dress up like a storm trooper.

Gotta go to work...good thoughts to all today...

Hello there, night owls and early birds!

I'm off work today. I would've liked to do a Voodoo 20 today, but I'll be meeting a buddy from CT in Manhattan later this morning, and we're gonna spend the whole afternoon drinking beer. I wouldn't have the energy for that if I ran 20 this morning, so I kept it to 8 miles.

The good news is that I felt great! Yesterday I took the day off because I was really creaky after the two races over the last few days. The day off seems to have done the trick because I was really fresh today. Heck, I almost wish I kept going...

I suppose if I get back from the city early enough this evening, I could try for another 12 miles to finish off the 20. Of course, it would be stupid to try and run 12 miles after consuming oodles of beer. But it would probably be something that Voodoo would appreciate. We'll see...

Bob...you could probably do your Voo tribute in 20 ounce increments, too. Seems like another distance he would have liked.

Ok, WTF is up with my quad? Big knotty ball right directly in the center of my quad.

Paging people with free advice.... doesn't hurt to run, but when I squat? Ouch.

Maybe I'll hit 20 if I combines miles and beers. Hmm....

Sorry to hear about the quad. I hope it loosens up...

I did 3 miles this morning. Split it up between a track workout and some hills. And finished it off with walking lunges up my street (we live on a nice hill). I counted, 200 of them. No wonder my legs feel all jellowy afterwards.

Tonight is the beer mile that our local running club is putting on. I really want to do it, but I have the girls with me (DH is working til 11). Hmm...what to do. I could take them with me in the stroller and let them play while I do my run/beer. And then walk home afterwards, since I won't be able to drive after drinking 4 beer in that short a time. Or I could see if my sister or niece could watch them while I go. I'll have to see. A beer mile sounds like something Voo would do, right? : )

Today was going to be an off day from running, but I decided to throw a little brick in the mix. Wore my WWVD - Run! shirt and my bracelet, and got an hour ride done and then immediately got off the bike and ran a mile.

I love the idea of us all lacing up our shoes for Joe over the next couple days -- reminds me of us all wearing our running shoes to his service. And, I'm sure that no matter what the distance is that you cover -- whether it's 2 miles or 20 -- Joe will be smiling about it.

Morning, everyone. The TM is successfully installed in the basement. There was some drama associated, but I'll spare you the story. The speed settings do not match up with the gym TM, however, so this morning's run was not a success. I started at what I thought was a good warm-up speed but it felt pretty fast, but I was too proud () to turn it down which only succeeded in burning my legs really quickly. So, instead of running tomorrow's 6 miler today, I only got 2.1 before I just called it quits. Of course, it slipped my mind about Voo runs today, which might have kept me going longer had I remembered. So, I'll try to get up early tomorrow before my volunteer gig and get in a couple of miles. On the other hand, it may not have been the TM but the crap eating I had yesterday (or a combination). I'll keep working at it.

Sorry I missed the fun yesterday; the thread was very enjoyable to read this morning. Ragnar is late enough in May that I should be able to participate, but you know I'm incredibly slow so I won't be offended if you'd rather go with someone else. Also, I think we'd need a northern leg and a southern leg of our cross country relay so get MO, AL, LA, MS and FL (if Jen's back home). I can't believe I just put myself in the South.

The weather is brutal all over. Be careful and smart on your tribute runs.

Clare - the beer mile is F.U.N. but you do throw 4 beers down pretty quickly. And then sprint after each one. :barf: But it's fun!

I just went back and read the fitness thread from today a year ago. Lots of classic Voo in there, including his report on his 20 miler and the lil' fugger bee that got him.

Solar, did you throw up afterwards (or during)? That would be my worst fear. I'm not really a big beer drinker. I'd likely take my time with them and end up finishing in an hour or something silly like that. : )

I did not throw up in either the winter or the summer one. However, the winter one was insane. Running through two feet of snow, in a blizzard, I think my adrenaline was pumping so much and I was laughing so hard (and I was the photog, so I was stopping here and there to take pix) that I never felt like I would puke.

The summer one was different: I DID feel like I was going to puke on the first turn of the last lap. I didn't, but I felt like it was going to happen. Thing is, because my calf was jacked up, I slowed my running -- so I wasn't sprinting as fast as I could.

For our beer miles, if you puke, you have to run an extra lap. You don't have to drink another beer in its place, though -- just run the extra lap.

I have NO idea what my winter time was, but my summer mile was between 13 and 14 minutes.

Hi all - quickie bike trainer interval/strength workout yesterday. This morning got in the first of my double - 4 miles with intervals before work. Going to tack on some mileage after work - might not add up to twenty, but I'll be thinking of Voo the whole way

boB - maybe you can add a couple burgers to those beers to get to your twenty

Any racers this weekend? VTFU mojo to any who are toeing the line

Great workouts already folks - keep up the solid work

Thanks, Theia! Coming from you I take that as a huge compliment!

Solar that sounds like an awesome time for your beer mile! I'm sure it'd take me longer, much longer, to do it. I think I read in the rules that you'd have to do the extra lap if you got sick. Geez, I'd never live it down with this crew if that happened. We're still giving one of the guys a hard time about puking after his leg of the relay this year!
