And speaking of defriending

I went a bit whole hog, defriended a good 50 or so people including my brother. I got a bit carried away after a fit of paranoia. We have friends from the home schooling community and it isn't odd in social situations to have kids come over to chat - most home schoolers are ignorant of the age differences. Kids friend indiscriminately and I casually accepted one from a younger acquaintance after a contra dance. I got creeped out when a hole host of "People you might know" suggestions came around for, well, kids. What's a 52 year old doing having young "friends" who aren't relatives? "What were you thinking Steven?"

That ushered a look at the whole FB thing. Out went work colleagues (sorry, it's private space), people from Travian (why did I friend someone in Belarus anyway?), people who were suggested to me as friends but whom I don't know... (give your head a shake Steven), dance or bodhran contacts I'm never going to meet again, and some folks from the boards. As I said I went a bit overboard and I mistakenly deleted a few people. I don't know some people's "real names", and some I just don't keep in touch with anymore. Some people have taken umbrage and have contacted me (my brother !?!) and I found out that I'd deleted Sue. It wasn't indiscriminate but it was sometimes mindless "keep, delete, keep" and mistakes happened.

I'm pretty open about my life here, I figure if you want to keep in contact you will, but gawd, there's more to life than FB. If you feel that you want to keep in touch, send a request and I will accept it - no questions asked.

Nah, besides which we're practically neighbours - I'd smack ya.

You did the same thing I did. About the only way people know who I am is via other friends. I did have a Birmingham cop at a half marathon figure out how to track me down and friend me, though so I thought that was interesting.

Scary how easy that is to do.

Heh. I had to rush over to FB and see if I got the axe or not.

I spend way too much time angsting over the friend list. I get requests from work acquaintances all the time. I'm actually friend with some of them, and not so with others. So I have a list called "acquaintances," and they can't see any status updates or photos, just my profile.

I do have a strict no prosecutors rule.

As I said, about 50 people got the boot. I doubt that someone from Belarus or this weird new agey guitarist friend of a friend will angst over it. If people feel offended or want to keep in touch they can request a friending and I'll accept- unless they're from Belarus or play weird new agey guitar. It ain't rocket science.

I don't know what to do about high school people. It's sort of nice to know what became of them, but I don't need to know their daily musing. And I am sure they don't care about my daily musings.

If I defriended 50 peeps I'd be ditching peeps I haven't even met yet.

Still need to consider FB.

I think the views is because Kevin posted in his normal immature and jump to conclusion manner when judging other people on another board that you had defriended him because of his remarks on the other board. From there I think it snow balled and everyone from the other board was jumping to conclusions as to whether or not you had or had not defriended them.

Amazing that people wish to make assumptions elsewhere as if they think their comments are not duly observed.

Reb... huh? And what's with the anger?

Tri... Dunno. I know that when people defriended me in the past (people "here" have done purges to go incommunicado) I would never have known unless I was looking.

But it's more fun to rile up the masses! As my confederate friend seems to have figured out!

You would know if you had been de-friended if you happened upon the profile of someone you had once been friends with and the "add as a friend" button was there. There's no notification for such things.
