first, a few notes.

1-I am not going to quit

2-if you don't like whine-ing please skip this post

3-I will try to keep the Swearing a Minimun, but don't promise to

=======

..........didn't feel like a streetrun today, but since I USUALLY don't feel like it lately that

was nothing new.

tried at 10-min out-and-back......

......1minute into it, my damn hipflexor wrap came undone

and I had to re-wrap on the street on the outside of my shorts which made me feel foolish.

.......the first hill I came to I had to walk up, but since I was doing a 4/1 it didn't seem like a big deal

.......but it started to hurt when I pushed off,

...........then a friggin' little dog got behind me and yapped while I was trying to adjust my strides, and WOULDN'T back off

......about 10-minutes into it, I was in trouble,,,,,,,,dropped the cane and started painfully

making my way back to the house...

at 15minutes

Pickles drove by going to work, rolled down the window and said ''you look strange''

GREAT, I needed that.

got home feeling like a moron for even trying to run

and the quad has been hurting like hell ever since//////

=========

they say Arthritics will avoid exercise due to anticipation of the pain.

today

I can understand that.

=======

I will analyse my mistakes,

reset my clock so to avoid the LARGE number of cars I had to deal with,

try a more level route

and see if I can figure out a different stride.

but at the moment I am just Digusted......

......it will pass......

......but DAMN, this hurts.

{{{tomwhite}}} The desire is there, for sure. It's just the approach and execution that need tweaking. You'll figure out how to make it work for you, I'm sure. Know that we ALL have confidence in you, even if you can't see it yourself today. It will get better.

{{{{{{{TW}}}}}}} I can't help but think this is just a minor speed bump, and probably not all that surprising after that cramp. Bet it caused some micro tears that need a bit of time to heal. With all my injuries (not as challanging as you've had mind you), I've come to expect that three steps forward and two steps back is the norm.

I'm sure you'll get over this hurdle and get to where you want! Hang in there!

Be well, TW, and stick with it. Whine whenever you need.

{{ tomwhite }} my gentlest, most tender hug for you! Have you tried some long compression shorts? They are very comfortable and won't come undone on you. You can wear your loose shorts over them for modesty too.

I tried to run last night ..and as uusal lately my right leg won't move right...and I got new pains down my hamstring. grrrr I suppose amputating my right leg and getting one of those nifty spring prosthetics is only a last resort.

Sometimes the only way to know what we're truly made of, is when we are falling apart and we can see the pieces falling off all around us.

Take a Mulligan for today Tomwhite, wrap everything back up in your gunnysack, and try again tomorrow.

Everyone one of us will reach a point where we say we can't or don't want to run anymore. I'm not suggesting you are at that point Tom. Honestly, all of our bodies are genetically a bit different and sometimes we just can't hold up to the stress of vigorous exercise. Most of us are like Brett Favre. He wants to play as long as his body will allow him. We want to run as long as we are able. The question might be can we be satisfied running with the aches, pains, and diminished abilities.

Hang in there, Ted. You've come a long way and some setbacks are to be expected. The compression shorts are a good idea. I can't imagine what a hip flexor wrap would look like, but I bet Pickles nailed it.

Ted, that really sux. You should be ticked off. Now that's over with. I like your plan to analyze the mistakes, find a more level route, and avoid traffic next time. And SLOW DOWN. I expect to hear better news next week. And know that you're an inspiration to all of us fighting injuries. How you keep up that humor I'll never know...

Hi TW,

That really does suck. I'm so sorry you had such a terrible run. I hope that tomorrow will be better. Some days that's the best you can hope for.

My run today sucked too but not as badly as yours. You win!

Hang in there TW......you're an inspiration to all.

I find I feel much better when I cuss, swear, throw things, and generally act like a spoiled 6 year old.

Try short strides if you're not alrealy, and mostly remember this sage advice from one of the most knowledgeable runners here.

aww Ted. I'm sorry to read this, but as others have said, you have the right outlook to analyze the mistakes and try something different next time.

I was hoping for more swearing...

A lot of wise words were posted before me. You know what you need to do. You've ran through more shit than any runner I know, and I'm pretty damn sure you will continue to do so. Oh, and if it were motivation enough, we'll all be watching.

tomwhite, i think there's a difference between quitting and graduating. some day soon i think i'll graduate from racing and just focus on the social and fun parts of running. maybe i'll have a graduation from running some day after that. i think the key to graduating is taking what you learned and applying it to something else... and of course quitting is rejecting what you learned and not moving on to anything else. you don't seem like a quitter to me... hardly anyone on this board seems that way.

eta: for labduck: "tomwhite, you don't seem like a f*ckin' a$$h*le quitter to me... hardly any m*th(rf#ck() on this board does that sh!t."
