I'm passing along part of an e-mail I received. This Philadelphia event looks like more of a "team effort" ultra than individual, but that may be negotiable? More information will be becoming available on the organization's Web site, www.backonmyfeet.org.
I've run with these guys once, and it was very uplifting.
The Back on My Feet “24 loops in 24 hours” Challenge (24-in-24 Challenge) sponsored in part by CBS 3
Team members from Back on My Feet, a nonprofit that uses running as a vehicle to promote self-sufficiency within the homeless community, will be going the distance on Saturday, March 1 as they run 24 loops in 24 hours around the Schuylkill River running path to raise money for their organization. The event will end in front of the Art Museum at 9 am on Sunday morning with a celebration.
At least one BOMF member will be continually running for the entire 24 hours and he or she will be accompanied by additional “supportive” runners. Each runner must keep an 8:40 pace at all times for the team to accomplish its goal. There will be four re-energizing stations along the loop for the runners to rest, re-coop and stay warm while they are waiting for their turn to run again. Anyone running in the evening hours will be required to run in a reflective vest.
24-in-24 will have four different participation levels:
Platinum – 2 laps (four legs) - 16.8 miles
Gold – 1.5 laps (three legs) - 12.6 miles
Silver – 1 lap (two legs) - 8.4 miles
Bronze – 1/2 laps (one leg) - 4.2 miles
Can the public participate?
Absolutely – runners will be able to sign up to participate in the same levels – the fees and starting point will vary depending on the level of participation and their start.

Sounds like quite the challenge for the team. I like it. Thanks for sharing the info.

Don't we have a large Philly contingent to get a KR team together?

does everyone have to run a 8:40 pace?

i cannot take any more time off of work for races. The slug event and Seneca creek will be pushing it with my other big races this year.

Yeah, I wonder how that pace thing would work, and it seems like that would exclude a LOT of people who would like to participate.

I have to see if I can swing this event financially (travel), but I'd like to do it as a long run that week if I can.
