What the heck are you guys doing to yourselves?

That is all.

Oh, no it isn't. I feel bad for Huntsman. The only sane individual in the race. Maybe 2016... Maybe, just maybe Obama will grow a pair and ask him to be his running mate AS A REPUBLICAN.

No! She's too entertaining.
Although, she hasn't been in the news in the last month or so.

Well then maybe she should go back to beauty pagents. Commentator for Toddlers and Tiaras perhaps?

There has to be more candidates who:

Are fiscal conservatives - espouse accountability and ensuring that taxpayers get their money's worth.

Are social liberals - know that the government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation (a Canajun reference)

Understand that poverty is a social justice issue not a reflection on a person's worth or value as a citizen.

Realize that collaboration and cooperation is not a sign of weakness, and admit that good ideas can come from either end of a political spectrum

Are leaders - not managers, not panderers, not followers of the majority opinion.

But Grizz, even if there is, can they run as a Republican, or is it too late? I think that it is so divisive, "them vs. us" down there right now that any person that is even close to that criteria doesn't dare throw their hat in. There really doesn't seem to be any "agree to disagree" anymore.

Not since pre-Regan days has there been any cooperation between the parties. That's when the Republican's party started shifting way right.

the last "good" Republican president (in my opinion, of course) was Gerald Ford, and he wasn't elected.

Heck, even Richard Nixon wouldn't stand the Republican test today because he would have been considered to liberal, and certainly not Eisenhower.

There's a book, or article, or something out there that I read once, "Who stole my party". It talks about Ford and moderates being pushed out, Rove, and others of his ilk, remaking Republican-ism in their vision.

And, of course, not to just bash the GOP, the Democrats are just as bad. They'll pander to ANY interest group out there, and then nothing done. They got in to office on Obama's coattails, then stabbed him in the back.

Does anyone believe that a conversation like this would happen now? Between anyone in any party?

The art, and respect, and cooperation of politics is dead, and I suspect it can never be revived.

Oh, forgot to mention, 30 years ago I was a Republican. Now, I'm undeclared, as it were. Can't vote in primaries, at least in my state.
There are Republicans that I feel can be trusted as fiscal conservatives and social liberals. Olympia Snow, Rudy Guliani, Michael Bloomberg, Scott Brown and former Presidential candidate Huntsman. Past Republicans who are no longer with us include Gerald and Betty Ford. They do exist. I think the Tea Party Movement has kind of harpooned cooperation between Republicans and Democrats who have worked together in the past and been able to compromise in the best interest of the country as opposed to political party affiliation.

Compare those to the Klan members of the GOP: Palin, Gingrich, Santorum, Romney - all of whom seek to use discrimination against groups not popular with Christian right wing conservatives. And of this group the least trustworthy of them is Romney; While Governor of Massachusetts he portrayed himself as a fiscally conservative but socially liberal Republican. He has shown himself willing to sell his soul to the devil and bow down to which ever right wing group he thinks can get him elected President. Morals, ethics as well as fiscal responsibility are sorely lacking in this group of Republicans.

On the Democratic side while I like Obama's generally social liberal views, he needs a dire lesson in economics.

And it should be added that Newt Gringrich as Speaker of the House did irreparable damage in looking for any co-operation. He finally had to leave Congress when 80% of Republicans were poised to vote against him on the "ethics" question.

It's that baggage that will do him in...not his screwing around on wives who were sick.

That's a cute one about Sarah Palin. Her 15 minutes of fame were up...and fortunately it appeared that she knew it. If Obama is re-elected she'll have some more space to deliver speeches and make money because there are always people dumb enough to pay to hear her. If Republicans win she is a footnote in history. b'bye

And it is becoming just as bad here. It would be easy to blame Stevie, but I lay that one squarely at the feet of Lyin' Brian.

Used to be that you knew that the leader of the opposition was a decent person (Stanfield comes to mind). You might not have voted for their party but you knew that if elected they'd do the best for the country.

Now it's so polarized that there is not intelligent polite discourse - until after they leave office and they can be all states(person)like.

For the first time in my life I do not share your optimism. Even when Bush I and II were in office I was optimistic about the U.S. With the polarizations we are seeing now, not so much. I'm certainly not optimistic about the 2012 elections, regardless of which party wins the House, Senate, Presidency or all three. I can see the U.S. becoming little more than a Christian version of Iran. There is little difference between Sharia Law and Christian Law when goverment power is operated in the name of a specific religion.

I think you are wrong on some of the points. It os becoming just as nasty and I've always felt that most politicians were liars, crooks and thieves. However, we in Canada have a third (or a 4th or 5th) political party that will take some seats in Parliament. This keeps the two mainstream parties from straying too far away or getting too lost with a poor leader or else they find they aren't the opposition party. Ask the Liberals.

Of course in the provinces it might be different. Quebec searches for new political parties while Alberta has been quite satisfied with one. In Ontario we seek out who might be the least bad.
Depends on the state and the party. Not sure about Nevada.

I am hating this election stuff. I really want to vote 'for' someone, but I dont see that happening.
