I've eaten "correctly" for a whole day and a half now. A whole day and a half. "Clean", if you will. Whoo-hoo! But, 1 1/2 days, for me, lately, *IS* a big deal.

(was going to say "I was being good", but someone complained about that before).

Made up a huge batch of minestrone on Sunday, low fat, low sodium, high fiber, vegetarian. Froze that, it will last at least 2 weeks.

I am fully aware that Thanksgiving will be a washout, but, better a Thanksgiving washout with three "good" days under my belt (ha-ha, under my belt) than a washout Thanksgiving with NO good days under my belt.

Other "washout" days will be parties on Dec 10, 18, 25, 31, and Jan 1. I've planned for them, yet, of course, I don't plan on going insane on them. It's just that they're family/friend affairs, and I know how they go. If I can stay away from the "crap" (treats, appetizers, useless food like chips and cheese and all the stuff put out in bowls), and just stick with the main course, I should do pretty well.

This is certainly a bad time of year to be starting a weight loss program (didn't say diet, someone yelled at me for that too), but, I might as well get some decent eating in on the "off" days (meaning, no party days), than not get them in at all, which seemed to be by modus operandi before.

Contemplating joining a Planet Fitness. I don't care about classes, amenities, free weights, juice bars, and all that junk.

For $20/month I can go to any facility. So, I can hit one on the way to work, do 1/2 hour on the treadmill, shower, get to work. On other days, I can go to the one near work, get 1/2 hour in, shower, and get back to work. Plus, I can get 50% reimbursement.

Gonna take measurements (and resting heart rate, maybe pictures too) tonight.

Wonder how much I can lose by New Years.

Way to go. I feel your frustration. I start eating healthy every day and I usually last until lunch. So congrats on your day and a half!!!

Yes, and yes. And, I've also gained two pounds.

Yes, I know, I shouldn't weigh myself everyday..but it is sort of frustrating.

I think my body has to get used to eating correctly again.

LOL, I've been using Xbox Kinect for a few days as my form of exercise, and all I've gotten for it is sore muscles a 0.6 pound weight gain. I feel your frustration. though my "body composition monitor with scale" indicates that my muscle percentage is higher than it has ever been in 8 months.

Ah, day 3. Well, during the day while I was at work, it was fine. Came home, DW says we're having nachos (it's quick, and we're all working like crazy getting ready for Thanksgiving).

And, I had two beers too. Nothing that is going to derail the diet (excuse me, change in my eating habits), but I would have preferred not to.

I'll call it not a bad day, but not a good day either.

Tomorrow, of course...that will be a different story.

I am with you Tech Tee. I did p90x in January, February, and March, and I was in awesome shape. Then I fell off the face if the earth, eating and fitness-wise, and now all my pants are too tight. Like wr4c, I start each morning off well and then get derailed by the end of the day.

But, I've run every day for a week, and I am going to see how long I can keep this streak up.

This is a hard time of year to try to get started, isn't it? At my gym, they are having a "nothing to lose" promotion... you maintain your weight (I guess it's ok to lose ;) ) for the month of December to get entered into a drawing for a prize.

Just joined up at Planet Fitness yesterday. Went there this morning.

I've seen a lot of bad "press" on them on the web. In some ways I really don't like the internet. Agreed, it gives the masses away to express their grievences, but, the downside of that is, it gives the STUPID masses a way to express their STUPID grievences. Of course, if you're stupid enough to believe everything you read on the internet, then, that's you're problem.

A lot of them are muscle heads complaining about their "no lunk" policies, which, quite frankly do not, and never will apply to me. I don't plan on performing 500 lbs bench presses. But, yu knew that going in before you signed up...it's not your type of gym, why are you complaining? If you like a Ferrari, do you go on the internet complaining that the Yugo is a piece of crap? Probably not.

Another bunch are people who never read the contract, and are upset that they have stuff charged to them.

The last bunch are people who want to quit, and, once again, didn't read the contract (has to be in person or certified mail), or didn't read that you have to quit by a certain day each month or you get charged for the next month, etc.

There are a few stragglers that complain that they were pressured to get a membership by the sales staff (yawn...walk away if you don't like it). Some complain about the cleanliness, machines broken, etc. Some complain about rude staff (which is, admitedly something to complain about, but a lot of times it's he-said-she-said). But, with over 300 clubs around the country, you are going to have some problems.

Oh, and I love this...I even have found messages from people who have never even been there, giving them a 0 star rating, just saying "I'd never join this club because of, blah, blah, blah..."

I would be concerned about offering up my credit card for automatic charging monthly, but, I have known the manager of the one I joined for over 15 years, and I know people who know the owner (he is an orthopedic surgeon who has worked on several friends of mine in my running club), so I feel safe.

But, either way, you can't beat $10/month. No pools, no hot tubs, no classes, etc. But they have weight machines, treadmills, elipticals, bikes, and showers. And, for $10/month...that's less than I spend on coffee in a week.

That's standard Planet Fitness pricing (well, there's a yearly fee also). The only thing I noticed that did NOT seem clean was there was dust in the lockers. The manager told me they have a cleaning service in nightly, and I believe that, but, it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't dust.

After a few weeks, if I still notice it, I'll mention it to him.

They have those spray bottles all over the place and you're supposed to wipe down the equipment you've used after you're done. I've been to several gyms over the years, and have always seen these, and have always observed that no one used them. With this place, I saw everyone using them.

Lotsa fat people there, and I don't have a problem with that, especially since I am one of them. But, the whole point of the place is, it's supposed to be a place where you don't get laughed at for trying to get in shape. Which is cool. Saw a couple of Biggest Loser types there, really working out hard. God bless 'em. At least they're doing something. You're not allowed to wear spandex or do-rags/bandanas there either. And no "wife-beaters" either. :)

Being honest...I have not had one "good" day since the Thanksgiving WEEKEND debacle.

At least I've gone to the gym two days in a row. And, boy, are my muscles going to hurt tomorrow.
